V (new)
V (new)
Not sure if this has been posted or not...
I enjoyed this series as a kid growing up in the eighties. I hope the new one is as good as the original.

That's fantastic! V was always my favourite mini series but it lost alot of it's appeal as a regular series. Part of the problem was that the aliens were already known to be lizard people, so why parade around as humans? The problem was the special effects were too costly at the time to have every alien actually look like a lizardman, and then of course why need actors to play the aliens at that point?
Anyway... I can't wait.

Actually, the problem was that the regular series by episode 5 had turned into Dallas in Space. The regular series lost all of the real drama, terror, and action of the miniseries and just became a soap opera with aliens.
If they can avoid that trap and the cheese, this show will be a definite win.
Sadly, they don't have an OOBRHAWT Juliete Parrish leading the Resistance in this one...but Morena Baccarin is hotter than Diana ever was, so it almost balances things out.

This looks pretty good. When does it start?

Well that's just the thing... what more can you do with a show that was heavily based on a mysterious alien race that turned out to be lizard men in disguise. The secret was out by the time it became a series and there was nothing left to tell story wise except the whole soap opera thing. If they were able to afford the high costs of effects back then, perhaps they could have avoided what had happened to the show and stuck with the more sci-fi / effects aspect. When they canceled it, the information I got at the time was that they couldn't afford to keep producing the show and the quality went down hill fast! With todays shows like Battlestar Galactica having done a complete re-imaging, I have high hopes for V. Also the effects are far cheaper and better done these days so it should be lots of eye candy on the small tube! I just hope they can somehow still surprise us even though most of us know the deep dark secret already!
The one thing I hope they don't do is have the aliens walk around in their human costumes even after the secret is out. That was just totally stupid but like I said earlier, what else would they do? The actors wanted to act not put on heavy lizard suits. If they can come up with some plausible reason to have the aliens remain in human form then that would be PERFECT.
Also... I really hope they bring back the 'friendly alien' played by Robert Englund. Actually... I hope he has a small role! Maybe reprise his character. I loved Willie!
I tend to think that it was more of a lack of imagination than just "we can't tell any stories without the lizard suits." ... or perhaps they were hoping for hat trick with Dallasesque sci/fi prime time show.
Regardless of what you thought of the indvivdual series, several shows tried to go beyond:
* Earth: Final Conflict
* Space Above and Beyond (More like WWII than future to me)
* Alien Nation
* Battlestar Galatica (Sure, it's got starships and stuff, but it's also where a necktie is a necktie -- not a medallion and a gas mask.)

Haha...good ol' Robert Englund! Too funny.
The show does look promising. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
**has flashbacks of Sarah Connor Chronicles**

I enjoyed the original "V", and I do hope this one does as well, but this remake is yet more proof that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. No original ideas, and only cashing in on faded memories of the 80's.

Hmm... perhaps its not that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. Maybe their just taking a page from the Old School RPG revival, and Castles & Crusades. They're making Retro-Clones and improvements so those that watched back in the day will relive it and maybe introduce new fans to the genre.
Of course, then the Old School RPG revival could just mean that the industry is creatively bankrupt and those making such things (Basic, LL, OSRIC, C&C) are simply cashing in on faded memories of the 80s
Traveller - Don't take this post serious by any means! I right there with you Go V! I wonder if they'll throw in sucking all the water away and alien/human hybrids. Of course the most memorable thing for me was when the leader said to the vichey human, "Your going to where you'll serve us best - the dinner table." (or something like that) and they promptly used him as food.

Ya, but C&C isn't a copy. It's got its own original ideas in it.

I wouldn't say creatively bankrupt. There are thousands of guys out with new ideas and new spins on things. Dollhouse is a recent example. By the end of the show, it was leaning towards actual sci-fi stylings (what does this technology's potential mean to us as a people and indvidual.)
And go to D-9.com to see another spin on the movies I mentioned earlier.
Hollywood is "risk taking" bankrupt. Instead of trying new things that might fail, they're trying everything including bait and switch ("I,Robot" and "Battlestar Galatica") to promise investors that core loyal audience is in the wings ready to buy the DVDs in droves. Box office reciepts and and reveune are only icing on the cake.

I was a bit older than some when the original was out (early 20s) and god, it was hideous. If the TV hadn't belonged to my roommate I'd have never watched it.
However, the lovely Ms. Baccarin might tempt me to watch a few of the new version. I've been sweet on her since Firefly.

I'm looking forward to it, but this remake really has to do something a little different. Not sure what, but if new V is essentially a copy of the original, then I will be bored. Here's hopin'.

I'm hoping they don't lose the themes from the original, that of overwhelming people when they come in. V was supposed to be a futuristic retelling of the Nazi takeover of Austria, Poland and Czechoslovakia. I think people could use a dose of that kind of introspection in our time as its easy to turn to charismatic charlatans when the outlook on the world looks bleak.

I was young when it came out, but I remember it quite well. To me it was so-so - there were some parts that were definitely better than others. This one has some promise, though, or so it seems.

Also, much, much less expensive to just regurgitate an idea/concept rather than having to pay a writer, or several, and spend time and money developing things. Who needs storyboards for "Small Wonder: The Movie"?
And re Morena Baccarin: well, what everyone else said. I hope she's on camera a lot.

I watched this tonight and I think this has a lot of potential. If nothing else, it seems to have an excellent cast.
I remember the original show, but only vaguely. I was too young (and too chicken ) to watch it much. How much is this new one like the old one?

From the look of it, practically identical. But having Morena Baccarin in it is not enough for me to follow the new series.

Well the aliens would recognize that walking around in lizard form could be at least distracting to humans and at most horrified. I see benefits from continuing to look human, as humans would be less guarded and more likely to interact with you.
Of, course there is the whole, pick which one of us is reptilian, so it is much easier to keep on infiltrating than if they just go full reptile.

Ha, sounds like I might be the only who likes the new show and that is because I am not very familiar with the original series. Ah well, again, I liked the cast and am eager to see the next episode.
I guess I am in the minority, but Elizabeth Mitchell is the one that piques my interest.
