Castle Whiterock, is it worth 45$
Someone is selling a copy on ebay right now for $45 + s/h ($14.20 priority mail) and I wonder if it's worth it for the read (and mine for ideas)? Anyone have it that can share an opinion?
I would buy it if I were you, assuming I haven't by the time you get back to it. I have it in print and PDF already.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

One of the reasons I posted it here was in case someone might want it more than I do (which is teetering...some days I have impulse buying issues and have been trying to keep those in check). I remembered a conversation involving it being a good product but prohibitive due to pricing so a little advertising goes a long way for this seller.

I haven't gone to buy it yet, I was busy giving you a fighting chance by writing another post first.
Realize with Serlerans opinion he is a guy that has ideas oozing out his ears. So, unless you have ideas oozing out of your ears, you will find a lot of cool little ideas in there, plus there are so many maps you can use sections of them for various "encounters" or even planned out stuff, and players likely won't recognize the map/layout if its been a few months since you last used it.
So lots of re-usability as well as some coolness.

I will have to concede this one to you Treebore. The look the spousal unit gave me when I said "but it's only $60" took the wind out of the sails for me. Too many irons in the fire right now for even that much more (being responsible sucks).
I'll have to pass on this one and hope that someone loses their box or something so I can pick one up cheap down the road.

Yeah, I actually went for one of the other auctions from noble knight to see if I could get it cheaper!

I say it is definitely worth the $45... the additional shipping would turn it into just a consideration.
It just depends on what you like and what you may end up doing with it.
If you are apt to look through it to inspire you or strip it of ideas but otherwise just have it on the shelf (it does look impressive on a shelf), then you can wait. In fact ask yourself if you really need it.
If you can appreciate it for what it is -- a megadungeon to be run and become a focus for a campaign and a tribute (or at least a nod) to a bunch of things it also alludes to.
If you like the DCC line in general and the 3.5 stat blocks aren't a chore to you, there is s no reason why you wouldn't love this set. However there is nothing really 'extraordinary' about it with the exception of the scope it represents because even for a megadungeon, it is pretty big.
The reason I got excited about it? I thought the idea of merging the lower levels of Whiterock (starting at level 6 or so) to the Upper Works set for a campaign would really work and rock!

I'd say $45 is definitely worth it, if it stays around that price.

Well, I am still winning the one I am bidding on from Noble Knight for considerably less, so I'll wait.

I didn't know they did bidding on NK. I'll have to take a look at what they've got to offer. One of the Acaeum members thought that they might have bought up a lot of the leftover GG stock when they transitioned away from 3.5. Could be some good deals to be had.
Nevermind...I'm not thinking to quickly. I found which one you're talking about.

For the record I lost the auction by about $8.

Its OK, I found another location, for which I also had a 10% coupon for, at which I got it for the same price, plus I picked up "Complete Arduin 1 & 2" in the order.

It sounds good, from everyone's talk. I have Rappun Athuk and Undermountain, so I just don't know how much more megadungeon I need, personally. But if I could find it for the right price, I might have to pick it up.

Lets see, I have Rappan Athuk 1 through 3, I have Rappan Athuk: Reloaded, 3 copies, I have Undermountain, Undermountain 2, Ruins of Castle Greyhawk, Tomb of Abysthor, Inferno, Castle Whiterock (now 2 copies, plus PDF), Temple of Elemental Evil, Myth Drannor, and I don't know. Any others called a "MegeDungeon"?
Good luck Soulcatcher, I am not bidding. When I bought the one I did a few days ago I asked myself, "Do I want to spend who knows how many days bidding again and again on eBay to get the best price possible, or just pay what I consider a fair price and not spend tons of time on eBay?"
Obviously I opted for just paying a fair price and getting it over with.

Dang, man, that's a lot of megadungeon! I'd say the World's Largest Dungeon would be a megadungeon, too, and probably a couple more we're not remembering. I have the TSR ones you listed, plus RA and CZ (to fully expand my list), but I haven't picked up too many of them. I guess I could get them for ideas, but for me I don't know if the money spent on those big jokers would justify the role of "idea mine" and not their original purpose.

Well, if it helps I don't have WLD. I have contemplated getting WLC, but have yet to do so. Yes, I have CZ too.
I think Tegal Manor could qualify, that manor is pretty darn extensive.
Another I need to look at again is that Zhentil Keep boxed set for 2E. That may have been extensive enough to qualify.

Indeed, dunbruha!
Yeah, some megadungeons are worth it, and some I dunno. Then there are others that I just don't know enough about (the current topic of discussion would fall into this category ).

You know, Omote, I have heard some bad things about it, but I didn't want to say anything for fear of offending someone. And I haven't perused it, so I don't feel like I'm qualified to say anything about it.
Glad to hear what I had heard was pretty much true.

BAH! Speak your mind, this is the internet afterall! I also don't own it, but looked extensively at it when a buddy of mine was working the FLGS. It's just not very evocative. No ryme or reason to monster placement, and the dungeon just seems boring as hell. Again, all IMO.
