There ya go.

And thats a nice definition of a business, but that's not the definition of practical.
Level-headed, efficient, and unspeculative.

Course, myself, I am the very definition of impractical. I'm working in a niche of a niche of a niche of the art industry where I could be making loads of money elsewhere. But I don't pretend to be anything but impractical.

I spent up my gaming budget for the month already. Funny enough, most of it was on extra copies of AD&D stuff. Heh.

Definitely going to pick the first one up next month.

Best thing to me, is as far as I can see there's no annoying "1e" written on the cover.

The erotic industry, the wider novel publishing industry, licensing art for movies and film, hallmark cards, the Franklin mint.

Now are you going to indulge in any more feeble trolling or do you want go go away now?

Cause not everyone has Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure. And there's a whole bunch of gamers out there who've hardly ever used a module in their games, some, not at all.

Ah, Peter...you're always good for a laugh!
What's the point of arguing terminology here? The 1E "system" (for lack of a better term) is in print. Its not called "AD&D", but then AFAIK BB isn't putting AD&D on their modules.

So, I'm off to buy some of these mods....

Glad someone saw the wittery.
The point, though, is about being concise. I maintain that producing something for a system that is for all practical purposes out of print is not a wise venture if profit is the goal. So far, no one seems to be able to refute that. Its just piles of sophistry.

I also maintain that, in order to reach new markets, a new look is in order. But see above on the sophistry bit.

As I said, AD&D is not in print. Hell, Michelangelo isn't producing any new art either. I could emulate his work if I chose, but I still wouldn't be Michelangelo. Nor would I have the tackiness to try.

My wife and I did a business outside of our work for about 8 years. It made us good money and also gave us some great assets for our children to inherit. IF we wanted, we could have gone full time, but with my health issues, we wanted to keep her state insurance on top of my VA benefits, because the VA hospital in Charleston, SC SUXX BUTT!!

We could go back to it now, but my wife's Army disability not only has her in bed the vast majority of every day, but has also given her the shakes bad enough to longer do the detailed carving she did as part of our gem and jewelry business. Still, she has two historically famous people who wore, or still wear, her work. One was Senator Strom Thurmond, and the other is Clive Cussler.

So some "hobbies" can definitely turn into a nice paying gig.

Now are the OSRIC guys? Not sure. I think the Brownings still have "real" jobs on top of running Expeditious Retreat Press. Plus they are also selling 4E stuff too.

Plus I believe only one of the Trolls, maybe two (if we include Mark), have given up their day jobs because TLG has made enough money for him to do so. I bet he only did it because he has good insurance through his wife's job, though.

Art is my full time gig. Took me a while to get there. But then again, as I said, I went into a niche of a niche. I am also impractical.

I knew that, but I also believe you are NOT full time because of TLG, but because of all the avenues you follow. Am I wrong in thinking that?

It varies. But then again I don't push hard for money. Hence the impractical bit. TLG is the most stable venue though. The rest involves local t-shirt designs for the Mixed Martial Arts stuff, and various private commissions, local conventions, and the like.

Trouble is, I get bored easily. I'm more in it for the challenge.

Yep, your looking at one. Though that may change as you get older your time becomes more precious, so I don't have the same amount of time to put into my own adventures as I used to.

Any original works planned for possible release as well? Or just DCC's?

The future will very likely bring original works as well. Time will tell whether they are practical-yet-improfitable original works, derivative original works, impractical-yet-not-quite derivative original works, or potentially-profitable-yet-hobby-ish-(hobbit-ish?)-and-practically-improbable original works.

I think

*wry smile* A while back, some girl ended up lifting my work off my website, scrubbed my signature off my picture, put hers in its place, and then claimed these were 'redraws' of my work. She ended up selling prints.

I don't see the creation of the above system as any different, subjective loopholes in game mechanic design notwithstanding.

I've already explained my other reasoning in other threads.

But other folks can do what they wish I guess?
