Players Handbook, 4th Printing

Post by Troll Lord »

Hey folks,

I've pulled this back from the printer. The problems with Heart of Glass and Monsters & Treasure have led me to the only reasonable conclusion that we need to tighten up the ship on these releases.

This will have an impact on the printing/release schedule of all remaining 3 hardbacks. Though it shouldn't impact Tainted Lands.

Sorry for the bad news.

Steve

Send it over. I'll have it examined.

I think that's a great idea. For a while my friends and I stopped buying Mongoose products because their quality control (particularly their editing) was spotty. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision but it's good to see that you're clamping down.

I'll have to talk to Walsworth. They'll be able to tell me one way or the other

It will go back to the printer at the earliest on Monday.

I'll get a revised release schedule.

If it DOES not make TC, we'll make some special TC soft bound PHs. Released at TC only in a limited number of like 50 with milled edges and autographed by the authors.

I am sure it will be worth the wait. Most of us aren't going anywhere.

Better safe than sorry is a good thing. However, a limited run of soft bound PHB's and signed to boot makes a great and instant collectible!

I'll have to bribe someone to get one damn it! That is to say... if it comes to pass.

No worries, O great and benevolent Troll Lord.
Seriously -- at least you come out and communicate with us and are honest. That makes a WORLD of difference. I respect that kind of transparency and care for your fanbase.

Outside of that... it'll get here when it gets here. I'd rather it be the best book it can be than a slap-dash, get it out the door by a firm date kind of affair (that got us ST:TMP's theatrical version, for instance... so much better when Robert Wise was actually able to edit the film his way...).

Softbound and signed? That'll be pretty cool if I get to TC early enough from S.E. Missouri early enough ahead of all the locals. Will this keep the CKG from possibly being released at GenCon? If it does, it does I suppose. Better to have the new releases in tip-top shape before we get our hands on them. Best of luck with that. We'll be waiting.

A prudent move I believe - and despite the occasional grumble, most fans would rather sacrifice just a bit to get it right.... my own hope is the new PHB printing, Of Gods & Monsters, Heart of Glass (corrected and all good to go), Tainted Lands Box Set & A6 for GenCon with the CKG finishing up sometime in the fall (as long as it's THIS year I think we'll all be good )

Stay on target.... stay on target (ok, recycling my own catch phrase from last Society email....)

I'm not in that big a hurry. It's not like the PHB isn't out yet making me wait for this one to play. (btw, playing C&C on Free RPG Day.)

Well, I'd rather see a snazzy product and it be later than expected, than the opposite. I'm anxious, for certain, but I can be patient.

I'd rather see this get delayed a little bit and have better editing than get it sooner and have problems.

Actually I think this is great news. With how awesome the 4th Crusade is, tightening up the quality control is a great idea. I think in the long run, this is one of the best moves TLG can make in light of the Heart of Glass errors. I look forward to getting my hands on the best PHB that there can be.

Gave me a chance to revisit and polish (on one part, literally) the cover a bit in any rate.

Even as much as I'm itching to get this I can't fault some tweakage and fine tuning.

If I do make it to TC, hopefully there'll still be a few softcovers left by the time I get there.

I am willing to wait a little while longer to insure a good product. The fact you Trolls are up front and let your customers know what is happening, speaks wonders.

Yeah I've said it before and I agree.

Unlike Mongoose who's reputation proceeds itself.

I don't like bashing any person or company, unless they ask for it. But on another board I mentioned my reluctance about picking up Paranoia because of Mongooses' reputation of horrible editing. Someone from Mongoose caught wind of the post (and subsequent agreement posts) and to all of our bewilderment said, "What are you talking about, we've never had a editing problem."

Bold as brass.

TLG is just refreshing.

I for one would welcome the opportunity to put away my red pen. Of course I said this the last time around and I still had work to do.
There are drawbacks to my doing errata though...and right now one of them is real life.

I too would rather wait. I've seen one to many mistakes in other products and it would be great to see the trolls rise above getting the product out for the sake of sales.

One of the worst things I've seen on my Eberron stuff is a HUGE misprint on their DM screen. There is suppose to be 12 dragon marks and they printed only 11. There were other problems with the screen as wel so it was quite obvious that they were itching to cash in on the early Eberron craze.

Take a litte more time I say!
At least we can see the treasure at the end of the rainbow! It's almost within reach.

Wow, Mark found scores of errors. All of them small ones, most buried deep in the first printing. Two quick examples: Under the spells, where it lists which class can cast it and level the Illusionist is listed alternately as illusion and illusionist. It should of course be illusionist. Then under Hit Points the dice type is listed, the d10 is left out.

There are alot of these. I'm going to plug these in today and tomorrow and then have another go at it.

Well, "the proof is in the pudding", and since you found numerous errors it was obviously a excellent decision.

I guess I can make due with a soft cover version in the mean time.
