Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Not really a fan of the whole goth look that seemed to hit around 3e....but I do admit, the artwork is quite well done.

Yeah, I don't like the super sized swords, etc... but I think its a piece of art bored players will spend a lot of time looking at the small details of.

I like the art, and won't keep rehashing it, but that barbarians sword is a Giant's shortsword. Stated as such in her history on how she obtained it (if interested its on the Paizo site - not sure how many here are though).

I buy TONS of Paizo, I even subscribe to their PF and maps packages, and nwo their RPG package, but I never worried about it enough to read all the hostories, etc...

What I find funny, is to make the sword OK in my mind, I just made up her story in my mind to be that she killed a giant and took his sword, so nice to see the real story for her sword was so obvious.

Meh. None of this art is new. It's just their standard signature characters pics all in one place.

My snark on Paizo is how Sorcereress (fifth from the right) is always drawn in action poses were her breasts are literally floating balloons. She always falling or getting air lifted so her "dress" is showing all the leg and hip it can.

Definitely Sorceress 5/Cheesecake 10 on that PC.

I'm with anglefish, total meh. Not only is it not new at all, but it's boring for the players to look at the whole game. I'd much rather have seen some type of panoramic battlescape or dungeon delve, etc. There is always neat stuff to see and find in the DM screens of the past (in particular Birthright screen, 3e screen, and of course the awesome Castles & Crusades CK screen. In this one, there is nothing interesting going on... just a bunch of adventuring types from the PFRPG standing around not doing anything. I like Wayne Reynolds artwork just fine, but this makes his stuff look boring in comparison.

Not my thing, either. I don't like the style. More importantly, I don't like the composition. It's a bunch of "pin ups" standing there. Boring.

As a contrast, check out the art on the home-made screen in this thread. Even if you're not into the style (which I am), the composition and the scenes are cool. Not "pin ups" and not "overthetopactionexplodingalloverthecover," but cool "moments in time" that make me think of adventuring -- what the characters are doing, what's next, et cetera. It make me want to be there. That's the kind of RPG art I find inspiring.

It's great artwork but I find everything way to big and out of proportion for my tastes. I do like stuff that is out of the ordinary (i.e. Eberron stuff) but this is way out there. I prefer the old stuff - the more realistic drawings especially the one of the mage casting her spell in the 2e DMG page 40. No ballons for boobs on that one!

And what's with the hair going sideways on the woman in a black wrap-armor of some sort? There is no wind of any kind that I can tell! Is it just a bad hair day or too much hair gell?

That S&W screen is pretty cool.

The screen is okay, I suppose. I'm not a huge fan of the guy's style (a lot of the characters look like they have a cold, with their red noses) but I'ver seen worse.

I bet it would be cooler if you draped some black crushed velvet over it.

The art work is well done, but a lot of the Pathfinder stuff is too close to anime for my tastes. I'm sort of conflicted about of PF art. For example, I like the pictures of the fighter and wizard, but not the elves or the gnome.

I really think the S&W one is much more evocative, though. Then again, I started playing when that kind of art was popular. I wonder if younger players would care for it.

I more of a fan of the Elmore and Caldwell era of D&D. But I do like the PF screen art. I never had a problem with the 3e style 'Dungeonpunk' art and there are several of the pieces in that era I enjoy as well. I will say though, the PF art is starting to edge into the realm of Final Fantasy and anime and I am not thrilled with that trend.

Not that I've noticed. And I go to a loooot of conventions. Anime is the big thing.

That's what I figured. And, from that stance, it is sort of smart for Paizo to take the direction they have art-wise.

I've seen all those pics before. As a panoramic, it's nothing special. But each individual character looks really good.

You have all seen those characters before, this piece is an original done just for this product. I guess that speaks to his ability since some of you think this is reused art.

It's typical Wayne Reynolds art. I'd rather see some art from Todd Lockwood than Reynolds. All of his stuff looks the same to me. I'm not saying he's not a good artist, he obviously is. His style just doesn't do anything for me really.

Also, all of those characters have been done before. They're the same poses as seen in the Campaign Setting book. Looks like someone just dropped them into Photoshop and rearranged some layers. To me it looks like someone phoned that pic in, so to speak.

It is reused art.

All of the pics in it are.

Heck, it used to be my computer wallpaper over a year ago.

Most reused. All of these illustrations are from the Beta version of the Pathfinder RPG and some of the downloads Paizo offered for Pathfinder Beta +.

Yeh. I think my "meh" reaction is mainly because I've seen all the art before. It's a nice looking screen, but it didn't "wow" me because the art wasn't new to me (oh, and I'd still pick the S&W one over it in a heartbeat ).

As much as I like what went into S&W the art wasn't a winner with me. Then again I am not a fan of the style either. That's the thing though, art is a subjective form that you like or not. Not one opinion is correct in the field ow which is better or not.
