Nice! I've purchased many Macross models in my day, but mainly just to own them. I can't seem to master the 'painting thing', as much as I've tried.

I refuse to buy either Big West-backed or Harmony Gold-backed toys until either of them get off their asses and start making Southern Cross toys (HG has the International Rights, BW has the Japanese rights). Yamato and Toynami could easily make Spartas and Auroran/Ajax toys as well as the numerous nontransformable mecha and vehicles. It would help to revitalize the series in my opinion, which would benefit both companies.

Of the most recent Robotech bookcase collection, I have them all with the exception of the Cyclones (just don't like the scale). I have a ton of the old Robotech toys from the 80s, some in multiples (Officer's Battle Pod, Invid Shock Trooper, Invid Trooper, Bioroid, Marauder, Spartan, Raider X, Gladiator), lots of models from all sorts of companies for MOSPEADA, and a dozen or so various VF series Valkyries from DYRL. I'm sure there are some that I am fogetting, but I have been a Robotech/Macross fan for 25+ years. Always loved this stuff.

These guys are hardcore fans of the toys: http://www.macrossworld.com/

Warning: You'd better be prepared to pay for international shipping charges (in your case, from Japan to Canada) if you want the good stuff. A lot of the dedicated collectors will even fly to Japan because the plane tickets and visas may be cheaper than shipping everything they were planning on buying.

Yeah, I'm one o' those hardcore guys. (My handle's drkstar00)

When I was younger and teaching overseas, I blew an insane amount of money on this stuff.

My pride and joys include a Taiwanese knockoff of the Bandai super VF-1S -which collectors offer serious money for as a high quality oddity to round out collections.

And an insanely rare armored VF-1J Battroid resin kit that's going for about 1000.00 buckeroonis.

It's serious business being a Macross junkie...

If you're a Macross fan (or even a Robotech fan) this is a great site to visit. I haven't been there in too long, but it is the go to place for Macross fandom.

Some posters there tend to be among the most obnoxious and venal people I've dealt with on the internet and Ive been a member for a long time. They give Macross fans bad reputations because they tend to treat Robotech fans as retards if we don't gush over everything done by Kawamori.

Ah, they are what they eat.

I never got into any of the above, but I really liked the Sectaurs for awhile.

The problem is that Harmony Gold is single-handedly preventing legal imports and legal licensing of all Macross products, except for, amazingly, Macross Plus. The two box sets of the original series also took a considerable amount of legal wrangling to get published in the continent. This makes some people get a little on edge.

It also didn't help that for a time, we'd get people in who were trolling like the infamous BankofKev who were putting out some of the most outrageous stuff in the other direction, and some MWers overreacted and became a bit too overzealous and started flaming anyone who spoke up in defense of Robotech, even in a constructive and civil manner. Shawn and Graham never condoned that behavior from either side IIRC.

I will admit that while I never flamed anyone, I was one of those who for a time was very angry at HG and despised Robotech, though the anger diminished when they allowed ADV to release the threee original series.

Then either lobby to have copyright laws changed or learn to buy over the internet. HG bought the merchandising rights in good faith in the 80s. If Big West had such an open and shut case for international merchandising rights to Macross, then they could force their way into the market. Big West doesn't want to play ball, plain and simple. Sorry if I have little sympathy for Macross fans who complain about not getting merchandise who, with the next breath, tell me I'm a retard for wanting Southern Cross merchandise. I've had it happen for too many years now and I'm personally sick to death of it.

Yeah, I've learned to be careful on many of those sites; I tend to be both a Robotech and Macross fan, so I tread lightly.

On that note, let's sit back and listen to people pretending to be Minmei:

No, the problems between Robotech fans and Macross fans predates Robotech.com. They go back to the days of the old Robotech Message Board from the late 90s. I'm not going to air the old dirty laundry, but there was at least 1 prominent MacrossWorld poster that was an obnoxious troll to Robotech fans. Believe me, this grumble is very old. It only got worse when Robotech.com came along and numerous posters started flameposting at Robotech.com, only to cause retaliation on MacrossWorld. There was also the incident where one of the MW posters opined that he hoped someone delivered a biowarfare agent to HG's offices.

On BankofKev, yes, he caused far more problems than he helped. McKeever also soured himself to other Robotech fans with his treatment of Darkwater and several others before the disaster called Shadow Chronicles came out. He has gone down hill in the eyes of alot because he now totes the HG line.

Dude!
I loved Robotech. I didnt get the toys but Robotech RPG (Palladium) was my very second role-playing game. I snatched it off the shelf at Barry Allen speed when I saw the veritech on the cover. Collected every volume that came out and then collected the Jack McKinney novels. (they came out around the same time)

I even got The Sentinels VHS pilot episode. That series shoulda seen the light of day. *sigh*

I got confused when I checked out Macross 2 the anime movie. Until I read the story on why it is so different in Japanese and why the later movies dont fit the American storyline.

Definite gnarliness.
