The people still playing 3E, and looking forward to Pathfinder are clearly fans of the system. I know some folks who just love 3E in every concievable way. They want the bloat, the complexity and the length of time it takes to do everything. This is the style of play they have grown to love. *eh* Oh well. I think the 3E grognards will be around for a long, long time.

While I'm getting the new rules from Paizo, all I really want from them is to still keep their other products going strong. And I don't believe I'll have to worry to much about that not happening.

I currently play OD&D and AD&D (1st ed). I will also play Pathfinder. I'll have a complete arsenal of D&D games fitting my inclinations. Rules light - OD&D, Rules medium - AD&D/C&C (if I want more streamlined rules with Siege mechanics, but still AD&Dish in feel), Rules-heavy - Pathfinder.

Improv/do it yourself, OD&D. Old school detailed rules set, AD&D. In between, C&C. Versatile, shock full of options d20 game, Pathfinder.

I could go on, but that'll basically be my D&D roaster from now on, depending on the inclinations of the moment and the particulars of the group's personalities and personal preferences.

Wow...only 50 dollars for the PHB and 40 bucks for the Beastiary?

For ninety dollars you can have the rpg.

Is it just me or is that a bit steep?

Rules? Who needs rules?

I think you have a great idea though. Play all versions of the game and see which fits you best.

Well, if you like PDF's you can have both for $20.00, plus they do have a PF SRD on line too.

However, I subscribed, so I got the PDF's for free, but I did essentially pay almost full retail. I did save a few bucks, but shipping did eat up a lot of the discount. So over all I saved about $13.00 per book between the value of the PDF's and the few dollars not eaten up by the shipping costs.

However Paizo continues to deliver, the layout is better, organization is better, the art is top notch, and the new ideas and rules interpretations are awesome.

Still, I will not play Pathfinder, I'll just admire it.

What game is HMB? Nothing rings a bell for me on this one.

Additionally, while I do like Pathfinder as much as I can like v3.5 roleplaying, the HUGE Pathfinder book is a pain in the ass to lug around. The book weighs like 5 lbs or something and at 550 or so pages, is just unweildy and hard to read. I'm not a fan of .pdfs, and I can stand reading books on screen so that is not a possibility for me. Always love the dead tree copies, but damn if my arm doesn;t hurt from holding and reading this book.

Yeah, I haven't played it yet, though I own a lot of Paizo stuff. I'm hesitant to jump in because I feel all the little changes that differentiate it from 3.5 are going to drive me nuts in remembering (at least in terms of running it). I'm more apt to play it than run it.

I'm in the same boat. And yes, there are lots of little maddening changes from v3.5 to Pathfinder that, if you play with rules people are going to come out in game. Basically it will take some getting used to. And god help the people who play both Pathfinder and v3.5. Bonkers.

Welp, not that I particularly agree with the sentiment, but C&C has art done by Erol Otus. Goodman put out a C&C module or two which has just that.

Erol Otus was cool and all, but he didn't personify classic D&D to my mind with his art. Elmore did.

And C&C's art (the limited amount it may seem to be so far) is better.

Agreed in spades!
Caldwell wasn't bad either and there's this Young Turk, Something (I want to say Peanutbutter but I know that's not it) Bradley or some such? His stuff is pretty cool too.

Oh, heck yeah!

I just got one of their Flip-Mats from the FLGS today when I picked up my C&C PHB.4 (the Theatre one with wooden floor reverse)

I love their flipmats! The theatre one is most excellent.

Maybe Paizo will do like KenzerCo (And TSR originally) and make a Pathfinder Basic and actually tackle the issue of too many rules.

Interesting thought. Of course we can't forget that the beloved Trolls going to eventually do the same thing too! Might not be a bad idea of course Paizo could just release it as a free Quick Start, considering a lot of it free anyway with the Beta Testing and all that.

For PFRPG - saying that they go with 4 races and classes as in the Old Basic D&D Set, do you think they Would go to the old stand bys of Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, Cleric (along with Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling) for it, but personally, if they do do a basic edition, I hope might they just try something different - just to be different, say Barbarian, Bard, Illusionist, Druid, (along with Elf, Half-Orc, Gnome, Half-Elf)

How much simpler can you make C&C?

Finally broke down and ordered the PF book today. Figure I'll at least take a full look at it. They already fixed my biggest problem with the system. They took D&D off the cover.
Seriously though, I always thought Paizo was a good company so I figured I'll throw a little disposable income their way and check it out.
