C&C is now a success in my group

Post by naturaltwenty »

Well,

The group has made it to it's third gaming session. If anyone knows of me on these boards I have a great affinity for starting games and petering out early. It's not that I don't like to game it's just like most 36 year old IT professionals those damn projects get in the way:). With C&C I've got plenty of source material and don't need to prep as much.

What's really odd is that no one has made a human:

Dwarven Cleric

Halfling Druid

Elven Thief

Half-orc Monk

Elven Fighter (maybe)

Gnome Wizard

So far we've got a suggested society name of No Torches Required.

I kicked off the campaign with Rudwilla's Stew - a Dungeon Magazine adventure from over 10 years ago written by Christopher Perkins. Great adventure and so far it's taken two 4 hour sessions and we'll probably be able to wrap it up in the next session.

We're in the process of putting a blog together for play summaries so I'll post that later.

See ya

I ran Rudwilla's Stew back in my 2E days. A good fun little adventure. Which Dungeon is that in? I have to see if it was one of the ones burned up in my house fire a couple of years ago.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Issue #45. A great all-around issue.

Yep, very odd and maybe amazing. Based on threads and polls I've seen, this is astounding actually. It's almost as though the players either don't understand the benefits of primes for humans, or they're like me - they don't care and would rather play a character/race that's infinitely more interesting in a fantasy game!

Your players are to be commended, IMO. Great adventuring party!!!

Congratulations on the early success, and I love the Society name. 8)

I guess torchbearers are out of a job in your neck of the C&C woods.

LOL

EDIT: Although, at the risk of coming across as overly picky, halfings only have 'dusk vision' and elves have 'twilight visions'. So torches may be required if they're going down into any dungeons.

I ran this way back then, a good module, this brings back some fond memories of my players then.

Spoilers - if any of my players are reading this thread read no further on fear of getting your eye's poked out...or at the minimum one of my cats will chew on your dice and/or miniatures...muhahahahahaha...erm...sorry bout that:).

I've taken it down a slightly darker path. Rudwilla, along with Hezra, the dead alchemist and others not described yet, all belonged to a magical order called Yn Drualty Commeeys (The Magic Order or something close in translation). Hezra had a falling out with the group years ago due to her evil nature and has now started her plotted revenge, i.e. the published adventure.

In my version Hezra has also instituted one of her minions, an apprentice into the Duchy of Mulcrow's (now part of Furyondy in Greghawk) court. The apprentice, who is a young warlock, is attempting to influence the Duke's teen-aged son with his black arts. This is the lead-in to All The King's Men (the other adventure I'm working on). The adventure that I'll put on these boards will be placed in Taern, an actual campaign/world that is also being developed.

The thing that I remember most about this adventure was the exchange that took place after the party was fairly certain that the stew was poisoned

(Jeff playing the cleric, says to the 1/2orc fighter played by Tim)

(Jeff) "Fighter try that and see if its poisoned"

(Tim) "Why me?"

(Jeff) "Because you have the best save."

(Tim) "OK." To me (theDM) I taste the stew.

(Me) "Save"

(Tim) "1"

(Me) "Your dead."

(Tim) "I hate you Jeff!"

A short session on Friday night (must learn not to stop at the bar before gaming). Recap - wrapped up Rudwilla's Stew. One guy did almost buy it from the poison. A 4 rd onset time and a roll from the bugbear chef to whip up a crude syrup of ipecac combined to save our intrepid halfling. Note to self - I'll have to give back his character sheet because I took it after he failed his save.

This was the end of our first adventure - 3 sessions totalling roughly 9-10 hours of actual gaming time.

I am still digesting the rules for XP but man I'll have to post a question to the rules area of the forums...XP seemed really low for the adherers.

The group is now up to 6 and yes, we are without a single human. Having the demihumans track the flying witch in the night and shooting her out of the sky was quite the highlight of the evening. Plus the look on the faces of the group as I pulled out 10+ bugbears during the final encounter was unique to say the least.

I bumped everyone to second level because the group is in no position to tackle UK2 The Gauntlet. It's recommended for levels 2-5 but if you plan to play UK3 The Sentinel right after that one jumps to 3-7 and has some rather hefty critters at the end.

I'm inserting WGA1 Border Patrol into the mix to introduce some more Furyondian intrigue and military-esque elements. Also we started to discuss using Battlesystem 2nd Edition for some wargaming sessions between the rpg ones. I'm going to pick up a bunch of commons to use at troop counters.

Later

Whenever you don't agree with teh xp's do what I do. Make them be what you think is right. Your allowed to do that in C&C. Well, any game really. But here it is part of the Rules Philosophy.
