PrimEvil Studios - Commission for Reaper Miniatures

Post by Egg of Coot »

Hello all,

Here are some shots of the Elf Warlord army I've just completed for Reaper Miniatures. These guys will be used for Warlord demos at Reaper HQ (and elsewhere, I'd imagine). An epic amount of work given the details on most of the pieces - I nearly lost my mind getting the archer squad painted . . .

Before you ask, I was instructed NOT to base the figures as Reaper will be doing that in-house. Otherwise, I would have.

Let me know what y'all think.

Enjoy,

The Egg

PS: All the stray white hairs in the photos were provided courtesy of one of my cats . . .

Once again.... YOU DA MASTER!

In my attempts to paint my minis, I'm learning that patience is key, but I loose it when trying to get the eyes done properly! How did you ever get those eyes lined in black on figure #5 (the one with her right hand pointed up). I recently finished painting my Jungle Queen but gave up on lining the eyes in black as they were in the picture that came with the mini. I just left eyes white and blue pupils. Do you use some sort of pen? I find the brush just smears everywhere.

Again... awesome work!

Not to jump in and steal the Egg's thunder, but they make what is called a single hair brush, which is what I use to paint the eyes on my minis.

I (more or less) use the method described here:
http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12

I find that I have a lot LESS 'performance anxiety' if I get the eyes out of the way in the first stages of painting.

The keys to success:

1. Patience.

2. A very good brush (sable and with a good point).

3. Properly thinned paint.

Congrats on the commission, first of all. Great stuff. I'll have to see about sending my Citadel stuff, if I can find it all. Hehe.

I don't think you need to go with as extreme a measure as a single hair brush. A good brush with a good point is all that is necessary. Just work your way inward - outline the eye, fill in the white, put in the pupil. Easy as pie.

Thanks! Now I'm itching to try that method.

Very nice! Your face and hair work is really, really good! The red accents in the crossbowmen jumps out as a great detail but my favorite has to be the loan Archer. Overall he's just great. Thanks for sharing!

Wow some very nice figures in that set. The boss with the flames is real nice and I love the detail work on the shield of the first set.

Thanks for sharing.
