There are several, but they usually also use maptools from rptools.net. What days/nights/times can you play?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Right now Fridays and Sundays are really good. Saturdays are out as that is my table-top game night.

I could do a weeknight depending.

Well, I think PMing Kayolan and ssfx17 may be worth your time. IF you can swing a Tuesday game I can fit you in. Mine runs 6 to 9 PM PST, which is 9 to midnight EST. You would be starting about half way through 9th level, depending on what class you choose. Being multi class could also change things.

My game thread, on Sundays: http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... llordgames

- This is a game in which people speak very quickly, go on tangents, and come up with crazy ideas. You have been warned.

Kayolan's game thread, on Fridays: http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... llordgames

- This game is doing good for players, although we have been needing a consistent wizard

In both cases, steady players would be preferred.

Hmmmm.... curiosity has got me once again!

As if I didn't have enough to do already, but I'm thinking it would be interesting to try out an online game using those digital tools. Is there an option to watch a game without joining or interupting it? Just to get a feel for how it is.

I can't see watching/listening in being a problem Jynx. Check out the links Patrick posted above as well as Treebore's game. My c&c game based in Faerun was running all last year but was put on hold when the summer came. When I do start it back up again, you are more than welcome to listen in / watch the game, but that may not be for some time yet.

I'd just like to pipe in and say what a blast it is to use Skype in conjunction with Maptools (both free programs, no less). I think it really is the next best thing to playing face-to-face. I've had a great time with all of the various games in which I've been involved. It also helps that the corps of online gamers are a right bunch of fun and witty chaps (and lady).

Jynx, I'll echo LS on this one. We often have people pop in for a session, or even just a part of a session, to listen to the chatter and watch the game unfold from the GM's point of view. I'm sure some kindly GM would be happy to allow you a "ride along".

1) Skype for voice chat
http://www.skype.com/

It's free. You need speakers and a microphone. Follow the instructions to install it, and pick a user name. PM your user name to the Skype host for that session

2) Maptools for the Gameboard, tokens, dice rolls, etc.

We use the development version (presently ver 56), not the release version

Download it here:
http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=launch

It is free. You will need to have java installed to make it work. At game time, launch Maptools. Look under heading File I think, then "Connect to Server", find the name of the game (in the case of nwelte: Nate's Game), enter you name, the password for the server (PM nwelte for that) and double click on the server name

The key thing is to connect to skype first, and then people can talk you through any technical hitches

You will need to DL JAVA for Maptools to work, that is also on the rptools website.

Nate's game is 7pm EST. This Sunday would normally be our bye week, but the schedule got messed up due to Gen Con and we canceled last week's game. So, we're hoping to make up the session this week.
