You guys may or may not know, but the Greyhawk Grognard blog has closed down. I only bring this up because Joe Bloch was the creator of The Castle of the Mad Archmage, which was an interesting solution to the lack of lower levels in Castle Zagyg. Good news is, Joe has started a new blog and will apparently continue his work on the CotMA, finishing his original intent of twelve levels. His new blog, for those who didn't know, is here.

I subscribed to that blog and was bummed out when I read he shut it down... especially because it looked like CothMA was only going to see 7 levels completed (that's the last thing I had read).
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am... a god.
*snorts* Continuing his work with the proviso he gets paid for it. We'll see how that works out.

I don't know... I don't find that too offensive, especially in light of all of the hard work he has done on levels 2-6.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Joe's work has been marvelous, and IMO a worthy continuation of the wonderful work by Mssr. Talanian. I'll be pleased to put a coin in the hat come payday.

Interesting. After Joseph Bloch (http://thegrognardslawn.blogspot.com/) first announced that he was going to stop the Castle of the Mad Archmage, Richard Graves (http://oldschooldungeonsdragons.blogspo ... chive.html) the guy who did level one/Mad Demigod's Castle announced that he was going to pick up the torch. Now his post is gone. Unless I was hallucinating when I saw it yesterday?

I didn't say it was offensive. Its more like folks are not inclined to pay for things that were once given away for free.

Not a problem Tree. I'm happy that Joe changed his mind and is going to continue the Castle of the Mad Archmage (I ponied up some money in appreciation for it too). It looks like I'll finally be getting a chance to use it.

I agree to a point, Peter. But I've seen marketing strategies work this way - It's free to get you hooked, then you pay for continued support. But I don't think this was ever the guy's intention, though. It seemed that he just lost time time to do it.

It's ransom I'll pay, considering the scope and quality of the guy's work.

If the man's work is high quality, then a mild request to pay him for his time doesn't seem at all out of line. While Pete's point is well taken, it doesn't preclude someone from realizing that they are putting far more work into a project than originally intended and asking for contributions. Seems reasonable to me, and the onus is entirely upon the user whether they wish to contribute.

Agreed. That is pretty much what I was trying to say, but you said it much better BD.
