Anybody else reading Fight On! ?

I have the first two issues and it has a real good old school vibe. It is written for games like AD&D but the articles can easily be used for any kind of fantasy setting.

It isn't the sharpest looking mag, but it has good articles a clean layout ( That looks suspiciously like a AD&D layout. ). I have thought about buying the other issues... it is up to issue #6 but I've thrown that $$$ behind some C&C stuff (Which includes a re-up of The Crusader.) and FATE stuff, so it'll be a bit before I purchase more issues.

And there is a contributor of the name Tim Kask to.

Anyone else getting these?

From what I've heard about them I'd like to, but they seem to elude my LGS shelves. Same goes for the Crusader, only managed to get two or three of them. Hope this changes.

I'm not sure you can buy Fight On! at bricks and mortar stores. I think you have to get it online (either as a PDF or print on demand).

Edit: I haven't read it myself, but I would really like to.

I have all 6. You have to buy them as a PDF or POD from Lulu. Print are bit pricey, especially with shipping, but it is my favorite magazine out of Crusader, Kobold Quarterly, and Knockspell.

Its like a combination of old school Dragon and Dungeon magazines. It covers not just "D&D", but Arduin, the Petal Throne, and other stuff. Fortunately they are easily compatible with C&C.

I highly recommend them and I have posted about this magazine in the "other games" forum here on TLG.

If you think issues 1 and 2 are good, wait until you see issues 3 and 4.

Magazines like Fight On! and Knockspell are the kind of gaming product I'm most likely to buy, these days. They're targeted at the kind of FRP I enjoy, the stats and such that they present tend to be compatible with my games, and they're the product of multiple authors with different styles and approaches. That means they offer a of variety and an excellent chance that I'll be inspired by or make use of something from the magazine. (I've purchased a lot of RPG products that I read and never used at all, either because they didn't light my fire, after all, or because I thought using it might be interesting, but couldn't easily fit it into my game, so it gathers dust in that "someday...[yeah, righ]..." category.) Fight On! and Knockspell are both products of "hobbyists," and they're full of the vitality and enthusiasm you might expect from hobbyists. Anyway, I think they're good stuff.

[Full disclosure: I have bylines in both of the magazines, but that's not why I'm praising them.]

The best?

Issue 4. Then 3, 6, 5, 2, and 1. In order of what I consider best to worst. With the "worst" still being pretty darn good.

Realize I also rate issues 3 and 4 so high because I have used adventures out of them, had a good time running them, so they help make those issues stand out in my mind even more.

Plus another reason why I like them so much is their focus on old school gaming like Arduin, Petal Throne, and Judges Guild in those 2 issues.

So unless your into those areas of old school D&D, you may not rate them as highly as I do.

I checked out the website but I'm not much into pdf and the printed version is a bit pricey for a magazine. I've pretty much limited myself to KoDT or Crusader as far as magazines go.

Did you read the page lengths? They are 3 to 5 Crusaders in size, each.

Other than issue one, I gotta agree, your getting much more bang for your buck. Trying not to be negative, because I am not, but some of the C&C modules are not even a quarter of the page count as one issue of Fight On! but costs roughly the same. To me price is not a problem.

I checked out the pod on the Lulu page and it said they were like 30 pages saddle stitched.

They are more compilation books than magazines. Similar to the Domesday Book. There is some good stuff in them.

Yeah, I love Fight On!. It actually inspired me to share some of my own material which got published in there. It's a great community-type effort, and a great browsing/bathroom reader.

Fight On! is simply terrific. Knockspell trails a bit, with better layout but less gaming goodness. Crusader isn't bad, but it's not nearly as entertaining or useful as Fight On! Those are the only three mags I get consistently, so I can't really judge the rest.

For anyone interested in Do-It-Yourself fantasy gaming (which is a niche C&C certainly caters to as well), I can't recommend Fight On! more enthusiastically. If you've yet to pick up a copy, don't hesitate. Nothing I've seen so consistently offers the bang for the buck that Fight On! does.

My heartfelt congratulations Treebore.

Maybe someday, I'll be fortunate enough to see it.

Until Fight On! offers an alternative to Lulu, I just can't support it. When I found out about the Hardback compilation just after they stopped doing it (after a contest I believe it was), I asked about if they would consider doing it again (even as a softcover) but I never got an answer.

I've seen posts occasionally about at least getting the PDF's on other sites but nothing thus far. This is going months back...

Sorry for the rant... but it would really be nice to have Fight On! at least accessible in PDF format on other sites such as RPG Now / Drive Thru. I mean, Knockspell is so it surprises me to see that after 6 issues or so, Fight On! isn't.

Yeah, I don't know why they limit their PDF availability. I did order FO! #6 via Amazon, though. Saved myself $1.56 in shipping compared to ordering it straight from Lulu.

You bought multiple issues, right? Well its sold via Amazon as a "reseller", so you would have paid $3.99 shipping for each issue. So I would hope you actually got a better deal ordering multiple issues from Lulu. If your shipping was below $16 you saved money.
