Looking for info on Troll Con.

Post by Ogre »

Hello everyone,

Long time Gamer but I have never been to a convention before.

I am wondering if troll con is only focused on troll lord game products or if other things are shown there as well.

What is admission cost? what are the attractions? Are these the sort of questions that just get answered closer to the actual con dates?

Thanks.

One can bring any games they want to run or play. Troll Con is an open event as far as that goes. But you'll certainly see a lot of Troll Lord product there.

Last event had a few Storm Troopers show up.

Had a couple of vendors at the last event. I expect more will show at the next one.

I'm not sue what the final paid count was, but seemed like there were 50-60+ people in an out. Saturday afternoon and evening was pretty crowded.

There were many flavors of RPGs (C&C and Savage Worlds especially), people playing card games (Munchkin etc.), some Warhammer, several different board games, and of course Aztecman's Cookie Fu dice game (and probably stuff I've forgotten).

Not specifically gaming-related but there were members of the 501st Legion (Star Wars stormtroopers), a local comic artist who works for one of the big comic houses, and members of a fantasy medieval combat group.

My son & I definitely plan to go back next summer if at all possible.

I played C&C, Tainted Lands C&C, Swords and Wizardry, the Victorian age C&C supers play test, and Savage Worlds.

there were only 2 vendors there, TLG and one other fellow, and he was well stocked. Very few "deals", but well stocked. I bought a lot of dice off of him. My daughter bought Munchkin stuff.

One of these days I'm going to buy myself a set of that game. I had a lot of fun playing it. Even won a neat prize for winning. Beginners luck.

They should totally set up a gamers flea market... I'm dying to check out one of those at a big con.

Well, a couple of problems with that. First - Troll Con isn't a big con.

Second, there literally wasn't any room for anything like that this year - people were packed in very tightly Saturday afternoon and evening. Steve and Richard have said they're looking for more space next year, though.

I don't recall seeing "flea markets" at cons I've been to in the past. Sales have pretty much been limited to dealer spaces, where the dealers pay a fee for the table or booth space, and auctions, where attendees can attempt to sell off their excess. But I haven't been to a general gaming con in quite a while.

I don't actually know what I'm talking about.

Hehe, I think it might be something more prevalent in miniature war gaming cons.

In any case, it was a good time, and I heartily recommend going!

Well, when Sieg and I went to CoastCon in Biloxi MS this past spring there was a gamer auction listed in the program that attendees could go to and bid on the stuff there. However, it turned out to be mostly older White Wolf stuff available and from only one person. Not a big selection. I suppose it depends on how many people the con can get to participate on what you'll be able to find. Like you, the auctions are the closest thing to the "flea market" concept I've seen at conventions.

I have no idea how one would negotiate setting something like that up with a con com, though. This guy at Coast Con just grabbed a free table from the open tables section, but he was listed on the schedule, which implies that he worked with the convention to do his thing. Did he pay a vendor fee? I don't know.
