Multiclasses as classes

I haven't read any Crusader magazine issue, so maybe this concept has been already proposed, but I don't know about it. Well, in any case here is my take on the multiclasses as classes for C&C (and AD&D), much inspired by the article "Multiclasses as classes" by Mike Stewart in Footprints n2 (a DF ezine), yet different (classes ideas and implementations).

The XP tables are not done very well (could be refined), but the idea was that at low levels, the character can survive so don't remain too far behind the single class characters, but then at higher level they should be 2 levels behind in order to not overpower single classes.

That is the concept behind the Class and a Half multiclassing concept as presented in the 4th Printing of the PHB. Also, see this thread on some other ideas for naming the options. http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... llordgames

One item to note, though it looks like you are basing off of 2nd Ed., I would make the basic Crusader simply a Paladin, the archetype is already built in if you use the Cavalier-Paladin setup from 1st Ed. If you want to look at various organizations of Crusaders, a Templar, what most people think of as a "standard" Crusader should be a Knight/Paladin, while a Hospitaller could be a Paladin/Cleric.

Yes... Mike Stewart did a similar article in the Crusader (issue 4) where he was 'blending' classes to make new ones.

The notable things about the principle behind the Class and a Half are:

1) A primary and secondary class is chosen where the secondary advances half as fast as the primary.

2) The primary class determines the overall level of the character and XP needed to advance is that of the primary class + half that of the secondary class

3) Hitdice are averaged (rounded down) to the closest HD

4) BtH used is the highest one of the combination

etc...
