Plague Name Help

Post by AslanC »

So in my world there was a Black Death called the Burning Plague... I was so proud of myself until I remembered I got that from a D&D adventure... anyone got any ideas for a name for this plague?

Help?

Take a line from Spongebob:

"I've got The Suds."

Ok, now to put grim and gitty side to The Suds:

Their are 'better' pictures of blister agents, but could not find any on the net.

The Wasting isn't bad at all, nor is the blood-rot, but I think the whole idea of it burning you up from inside might require a more evocative name.

The victims develop first a fever and then blisters.

The blisters fill with water (maybe blood instead?) but are at around 90 degrees. Their temperature never drops below 103, and usually spikes much higher right before death.

Hence "the burning plague".

Or if you want to twist something inside out, you could do "Grave Chills" where the victim is freezing, even in the summer and might frost up things around him

Of course, it's a contagious frost.

Heres a few more for your consideration:

Volcano, Hell's Fire, Lava Guts, Burn Vein, Water Pox,
Quote:
'ayiii...ole' Harry Drumbane come down with the (INSERT ONE OF THE ABOVE HERE). I hear tell the very room he's in is like the surface o' the sun. He's been screaming and gouts o' pus and blood are rupturin forth at regular intervals so says the Chrigoun.'

When I think about this, I'm reminded of Steven Kings 'The Stand' the plague that hit took on various names in different areas. One I recall is they called it 'tubeneck' in the south. So no reason why you can't use multiple names. Plus it might add to the confusion for your PCs.

There was a book by Koontz or Kuntz (can't remember clearly) that had a poison called dragon sand. A few grains would incinerate a victim from the inside out leaving an ashen husk. So...

Dragon Plague

Salamander Fever

Flame Rot

Pyre Plague

Hot Pox is great! Sort of the peasants name for it!

Serovin's Curse, due to it being tied by scholars to Emperor Serovin's folly 500 years before.

Salazar's Revenge, for the same reasons as above.

Now which of these do you prefer;

The Red Death

or

The Burning Death

Those with a touch of gallows humor could call it Bubble and Squeak.

Come to think of it, just about any traditional English recipe title would make a fine nickname for a disease:

Toad in the Hole

Spotted d**k

Scouse

Blanc Mange

Wet Nelly

etc.
