Warhammer 3E is sounding more and more interesting...

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I didn't quite get, from watching the video, how this is supposed to be a roleplaying game. It looks exactly like a Warhammer version of Fantasy Flight's Lord of the Rings and Arkham Horror boardgames. Action cards? Stance metres that dictate whether you're playing recklessly or conservatively? Shudder...
Do you even get to make up your own character? It looked like you pick from a selection of premade character cards, again, exactly like Arkham Horror.

Yeah, it does appear to be strongly board game flavored. All it seems to be missing is the game board.
Still an interesting integration of ideas, so I will likely break down and give it a run.

On a more serious note! LOL! I did watch the video and have been quasi following the info on FFG's site since they announced the new edition. My take from the video showed more or less a board game - IMHO. Seems like a variation on Runequest or Descent, only with cardboard cutouts instead of minis - probably because GW gave the big NO to having FFG do that - they don't want any inhouse competition from a liscense! I do wonder if GW push the mini's angle in White Dwarf, like an adventure pack or maybe Forge World or something.
Yeah, I know its an RPG and one can simply say it provides all the gaming aids in one box so you don't have to buy everything from Paizo's Game Mastery line.
If someone has it I'll give it a shot, I'm not vested editionwise. I've gotten 1/2E but never had chance (that I recall) to play, though I did like the system. I just don't see myself buying it anytime soon. I would hope they show an actual play example, to show their Roleplaying aspect though.

All the extra mechanics and their corresponding toys look very pretty and well placed to attract board gamers to roleplaying. I just want to see how it will fit together.
I also find the trend towards small pockets of civilization surrounded by evil in campaign settings interesting. Is this a major selling point now?

Pretty much what he said except without the squiggly line and the O.
I saw this video awhile back and the more I saw of it the more it turned me off. I can see their strategy... but they are even taking more of "role"playing out of the rpg than D&D4e did.
Too many fiddly bits, special dice doesn't really bother me... but common look at that freaking thing.
Though the biggest turn off for me is something that I don't think bothers too many gamers, but the designers assume that everyone games around a table. I don't and don't like to. I like to kick back in a comfy chair, have a binder to roll dice on (or for you rich people those fancy dice trays) pop/beer available with snacks and a relaxed attitude. Not stuck in some hardback chair elbows on the table and some idiot spilling their Mountain Dew all over the place.
Oh, and it is not even worth it to have cigar night if your sitting around a table.

We recently had a split in our group between the "hardbacks" and the "loungers."
The old place we gamed had a shared living room/dining room area and we all sat at the table. The new place not only has separated spaces, the living room is filled with comfy sofas.
Two players hate it. One even said that he would have picked up clues faster if he hadn't been so distracted by being comfortable. He's now also wanting to have figures and maps, which we've rarely done in the past.

Ya, I can't stand gaming with RPGers that get used to couches and the like. We've done this numerous times and those games never seem to work out because almost always those who are more comfortable fall asleep, nod off and generally have less attention span than those sitting around the table. So to those table gamers, I salute you!

If you just ordered it (i.e. Tuesday or later, so after the pre-order phase), then you and I are in the same boat. My wife finally ordered my Christmas copy (Ssshhh! Don't tell her that I know ) and it's scheduled to be delivered after Christmas.
Oh well. She also ordered the core 4E books for me for my birthday, which was actually a couple of weeks ago, and those should be here soon so I've got something new to read and play over the Christmas break from my grad school classes. Never in my life did I think that only having to deal with work and a child would be a "break."

Wait until you think dealing with your wife and 3 kids is a break.
