For the love of the Val-Eahrakun, what is the XP value for the PUALA BEAST?
Sweet issue.

I can't ever remember to do that part of the monster.
I have 32,700 + 20 per hit point. These creatures are very tough.

Yoiks-and-away! That is a baddie of epic proportions. The beast's description alone is literally worth a half dozen adventure ideas alone. Cool picture too. And, this is going to be nice for M&T Aihrde fans who are looking for a big, 32 HD baddie!

I like this issue. Steve's article about low level characters was cool. There were a couple of points made within that I'll take away for sure.
I love articles like Upon the Blacktooth Ridge. Behind the scenes stuff like this is fun to read. The Book of Familiars article has lots of cool stories like this as well. Keep 'em coming!
There was a message board post about gaming with small kids. Ironically, there is an excellent article about that very subject in this issue.
I love the adventuring locale by Christina Stiles. It's awesome to see arabian material like this rather than the same old medieval Europe stuff all the time.

I think it's a short issue. Not sure why, but it feels short. However, the Blacktooth Ridge article is pretty cool, as well as the Lay of the Lothian Princes, and the Monster's of Aihrde. The more material I can use, the better. Oh yeah, the Troll Lord Freebies map section is quite cool as always. But this month, there is more to be seen in the maps that follow. I guess Pete Bradley and the editor decided to do some linked maps in the Freebies section.

Well. I decided too, anyhow.
Like with the Lollygag Inn map, I'm pulling a few locales out of my own campaign setting.
There's actually a bit more to the Lollygag Inn. I just didn't have enough room on an 11x17 sheet to put the other floors in.

I just read James Ward appeal for more subscribers and the need for we, the users of the message boards, to make sure we all are subscribers. I was shocked to learn that this was not the case. The crusader is a great magazine and we need to show our support. if you read this, then you better have a subscription. If not, then get one, asap. you will not regret it.
Sorry for the hijacking of this thread, thought this was a good place to start.

I'll participate in the hi-jacking for a moment. The magazine is a good magazine that has come a long way from a couple of years ago. It certainly is a lot more regular though not quite monthly. Issue 22 marks the 8th issue to be released in 2009. This is not a complaint, merely an observation. I know that TLG has had more than its fair share of challenges in 2009 and obviously some of the key writers are also working on other TLG related projects.
The Flyer / Suscription Card campaign from the beginning of November (where you got a free module for subscribing) was a good idea but I'm not sure how well that went. I know I didn't get one (though I am already subscribed) but I began to wonder if maybe this was restricted to the US only. Actually, I was also a bit surprised that there wasn't another push with the x-mas sales for a subscription.
I think it subscriptions will continue to grow over time but it may be only gradual. Maybe the Trolls should include a subscription card in other products they sell? Their modules... or even their PHBs. It's entirely probable that people who buy a PHB in store may not come to the site or even be aware of the existence of the mag. Some local game stores just won't carry much in terms of mags either if not refuse alltogether.
The best that we Crusaders can do is spread the word to the those we game with but don't necessarily follow the boards or have a subscription.
For Jim and TLG, they need to figure out what us gamers want and we need to tell them at every opportunity.

I'll second that notion (or third it rather). Not only does a Crusader subscription show support for the Trolls (THE rpg company as far as I'm concerned) but, more importantly for your own wallet, you're getting one of the best gaming magazines out there. Those who fail to subscribe will be....well, you'll just miss out.

I think this is a very good suggestion. A few subscription cards added to key products can't hurt. Perhaps they could also be sent to anyone running games for local shops, cons, etc. as well. I'm still gathering my forces for a Crusade here in central Virginia but I'll leave that for another thread.

I'm subscribed for a long time to come.
I've gotten my FLGS carrying The Crusader, as well as stocking TLG products. After the holidays, I'm planning on heading down there to run some demos.
I think the biggest question really isn't so much one of amping up subscribers as it is increasing the visibility of C&C and TLG in general. For me, this is a far more palatable option than turning Crusader into a more generalist rag a la Dragon.

Hope I didn't step on any toes but I thought it might be a good idea to move the discussion and let this thread get back to the topic at hand.

Thanks, Dagger. I'm trying to get a companion adventure together for it.

"Passing the Torch" is not just about CKing for kids. My bro grabbed up issue #22 when he was over for Christmas day and read it, turned to me, and said:
"You know, it sounds like he is talking about us."
And I thought that was true enough. We do have the attention span of a squirrel at times:
"I'm attacking the one closest to me."
"They're all dead. We're looting the bodies and I just asked you which piece you wanted."
Or the part about simplifying the names:
"Let's go back to that one guy."
"Who?"
"The one who told us to go to that one place where we killed those dudes."
"The King? Those were his merchants we killed. I'm pretty sure he's gonna be pist for that."
"Oh .... I'm attacking the one closest to me."
So it's not just for kids anymore.

I hope you liked the article.
I'm looking forward to that article myself. It's next on my list to read in fact.
Steve's article on low-level play was fantastic and the Society article had some very exciting news. So far, 22 is shaping up to be one of the best Crusaders yet.

Is Hammer and Anvil in this one? I've had a hellacious 2 months with a new job and all so I can't remember if I submitted my latest to Jim. If it's not in there he'll get an e-mail today that has the file attached!

Thanks for the heads-up. I thought I sent it to him before I moved, but I apparently did not.
Next issue then!

Picked mine up yesterday. A very interesting read, all told, wih a slightly different feel to recent issues, though just as good. Overall the issue felt a touch meatier than usual, taking longer to read. High points would be Steve's article on low-level play, Christina's adventure locale, the potted imperial history and our watery friend at the end, but there wasn't a sour note in the whole thing.
Great stuff.
Great stuff.
