Suggestions Please.

Post by CnD »

I have a little over $80 currently, that I'm planning to use for purchasing C&C products, two of which are the PHB and M&T, this will leave me about $45 to spend on accessories / modules / misc., and was hoping I could get some input as to what other players and/or CKs suggest for picking up along with the core books?

Thanks,

- J

This really depends on your tastes.

I here that tainted land is good and solid product.

Yu'll need to have a Campaign to play so Isuggest looking at the couple that are availible - the Aseries and the D series I think....

Go with one of those

Gods and Monsters offers some intresting Ideas.... and will offer you pantheons to use there is the Airhde Setting which is the official C&C world

Do you have any Prducts from other editions of DnD

that you can use - it would help me to know that before I give a list of what to get,

Without knowing that

I suggest you buy the Haunted Highlands Campaign- its excellent and will keep you gaming for a good long time

I'd go with Umbrage Saga and Of Gods and Monsters. Or if not the latter, then the Haunted Highland adventure series.

Depends a great deal on what you're looking for, as there aren't many "supplement" books aside from modules. Maybe the Black Tome of Nartarus for the undead goodness within, or some setting stuff like James's Wilderlands materials... or even The Haunted Highlands. I would be remiss if I did not also plug my own Engineering Dungeons, which is a nice thing to have to supplement any existing adventure/dungeon (or to make your own.) A subscription to Crusader would not be a bad thing, either, but you might want more immediate bag for your buck... so, perhaps the compilations of previous releases, there?

I'd go for Of Gods and Monsters & Haunted Highlands; they've been my favorite products -aside from the core books- to date.

With 80 bucks I would get:

C&C Flipbook (PHB and M&T in a softcover!) - 24.99

Castle Keeper Screen (plus a low level adventure!) - 19.99

Of Gods and Monsters (a listing of deities and their followers) - 24.99

That brings you right up to $70. Shipping is probably going to be 10 bucks or so which will bring you up to $80.

The Haunted Highlands sounds like a good pickup, was hoping to use one of the TLG settings to run. I'm a bit burned on TSR/JG settings and was looking for something my players will have no familiarity, so they can get a fresh start exploring new places. Was thinking of getting it and the Dro modules to go along with it.

Not sure about Gods and Monsters right now, I never used the D&DG book when running AD&D, so would it be of similar vein? Or, if I pick up the Airhde folio, would the OGoM compliment it?

And last, are both the flip book and the Umbrage Saga box set available now?

Umbrage Saga box set, and Engineering Dungeons. Towers Of Adventure after that and then some modules.

Umbrage Saga because it has lots of modules all in a neat box.

Engineering Dungeons because it definitely helps newer GMs with their own hand made dungeons.

Towers of Adventure because it is a set that makes dozens of encounters for when you are short on prep time.

Some modules I'd recommend:

Ruins of Ramat

The Haunted Highland series, or the C series.

The Goblin Fair (it's d20 and needs conversion, if you have those notes it is easy)

Any of the Goodman Games ones.

There are lots of others, the Forum C & C Adventure Modules is literally filled with good suggestions.

But definitely (and I mean definitely) get a subscription to Crusader magazine. It keeps coming all year long and is filled with add-ons, fiction, adventure locations & encounters, and commentary. I would not recommend anything else higher.

If you're looking for a setting and published adventures, then Haunted Highlands is a nice choice.

If you prefer to make your own adventures I recommend Engineering Dungeons, and Towers of Adventure. I like utility tools such as these, that allow you to create your own adventures when you're pinched for time.

I would suggest Umbrage saga box also. lots of adventures, a campaign ready to use or from which to pick and choose.

if no mods for you, Engineering dungeons really is good, and I liked the Black Libram of nartarus also.

most of the dollar download things are good too.

no personal experience w/ HH but hear they're good

Hehe... thanks for the plug Bill.
Actually, that reminds me... that sale (Skerry/Ramat bundle) is coming to an end very soon. Something to keep in mind if you anyone was thinking about that bundle. We'll post an official 'end date' / reminder soon enough.

With the left over $45.00, if you like adventure modules that are pretty closely tied to the Aihrde setting, might I suggest the Umbrage Saga: Wicked Cauldron box set (to be released in the next week or two). The pre-release box sets went out and it is fantastic. There is one big book in the box set that is JAM-PACKED with approximately 5 modules, and a ton of mini modules and encounter information. Plus, if you are interested in the Aihrde setting, this box set has some of the most detailed information on one particular part of the world where all of these adventures take place. Plus, Umbrage saga comes with two cool, full-color maps.

If that is the way you want to go, you have about $25.00 left over that you can get another module or two, or just get the After Winter's Dark setting from TLG.

That would be a lot of great RPG for $80.

I would suggest Mortality of Green if you have not already played it.

I have not yet played Mortality of Green, what can you tell me about it?

@ Everyone else, thanks for all the input, lots of ideas to work from.

On another note, yesterday evening I was cleaning out one of the closets in the front room of our house, where I keep my gaming bookshelves and my wife has her art studio and drawing table set up.

In one of the old storage boxes, I discovered some old AD&D books (mostly 2E Core, Complete Handbooks, some d20 stuff, but also a near-mint copy of the Codex of Erde, even has the map included. Didn't realize I had ever picked this up.
So, I thumbed through and wondered if this is a good thing to have to compliment the Aihrde Folio if I pick it up, since it is a d20 product?

I like having both. Even if a new version is made I see it as a compliment to the material.

I can't say anything that hasn't been said here before ... Haunted Highlands, Umbrage, and a subscription to Crusader are must haves.

Codex of Erde is a great book! I can hardly wait till the Trolls do a non-d20 update on it, but keep your copy and use it allot!

By the way, great pict for your icon. Tolkien is one of the greats!

I don't really even identify the 3.5/AD&D/C&C conversion issues myself.

I use Codex of Erde and never had any issues with the particular system used.

I pick up a module be it AD&D, C&C, or 3.5 and just run it with very little modification.

For publishing reasons I know why TLG would need to convert the book, but for your own puposes I see no reason why you can't already use the one you have or any published material for that matter.

Yeah, was looking through it a bit closer today and noticed everything up to the Player Section seems to be world / setting fluff no mechanics.

I think I was more curious if the setting info in it and the new Aihrde folio is redundant or updated, both, neither, etc.?

If you want something different, I'd suggest Green Ronin's Castles & Crusades Freeport Companion PDF.

You'll get plenty of monsters, several spells, magic items, two new classes, a few new CnC races, and rules for guns and insanity, all with a pirate theme.
