A Book of Wondrous Beasts - Free PDF Now On My New Game Blog

Post by clavis123 »

Greetings! My long-awaited (I hope!) collection of medieval monsters for Castles & Crusades is now available. "A Book of Wondrous Beasts" collects over 40 creatures inspired by actual medieval folklore, legends, bestiaries, and heraldry. Versions of most of them have already been posted on these forums, but now they are collected together for easy reference. "A Book of Wondrous Beasts" contains only the medieval monsters - creatures inspired by modern folklore, and original creations, will put into separate collections.

Check out my new gaming blog, "The Engine of Oracles" to get the PDF. Many more creations are coming, both to these forums and on the blog. Enjoy!

I can't read it, thar ain't no pikturs.

(Looks good, I like the border you selected as well. You know there may be a lot of open source art you could legally use for this, including old, old art that may have been done when the stories of these creatures first appeared.)[/url]

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Actually, I'd like to eventually release a fully illuminated print version for sale, in addition to the free basic text edition.

Thanks. The border is my own design. I wanted to make something that might still look good viewed on smaller laptop screens at a game table. The same consideration went into choosing the font, so I looked for one that looked suitably old, but was still readable on screen.

I'd want the possible future print version to have a finer, more detailed border like the authentic medieval ones you suggest.

To everyone, I'd like to thank you for all your kind words and encouragement so far. Keep posting your own original creations, too!

Thanks. My players also loved it when I sprang that one on them!

Cool. A few of those, I had considered for M&T II at one point, like the parandrus.

I've uploaded a new version of the book, which corrects a number of problems. Most noticeably, the creatures weren't properly alphabetized! Just goes to show why the world still needs editors, and why its so hard to be your own!
