Mongoose Conan + C&C = This

Post by AGNKim »

I love me some Conan, but the crunch of Mongoose's d20 is to wonky for me, so I tweaked it. It's basically C&C with the following:

Rules: http://www.mediafire.com/?yztjzmjunlm

New class (Scholar): http://www.mediafire.com/?ezmnnmmnkzy

Tell me if you like it. If you don't, ess tee eff you.

Was this inspired by the "scholar" thread(s) in the rules forum. Some of that was neat.

No, I haven't even read any of it.

Yes, I downloaded this stuff. It looks fine to me, but I only have cursory knowledge of the Conan game.

Do you need special rules for clerics?

Yes. There are none.
In Mongoose's Conan, there is one spell-casting class, the Scholar. You must pick a background on creation, one of which is a lay priest. If you pick that, you are about as close as possible to a Cleric. But in Hyboria, sorcery is inherently evil. A lay priest, and later a priest, may have a few counter spells, but that's about it. Anyone with powerful sorcery is a bad guy. Mongoose uses this sytem of spell casting called Power Points. They are based on your INT score and level. You can also gain Power Points via rituals and sacrifices. For instance, if you saacrifice a Aqulionian virgin girl to Set, you get a boost to Power Points. (see? Evil!) And there is no healing magic...

Instead, you get this guy to put salve on your upper thigh. To keep the infection from spreading...

That's from the second movie. It didn't exist.

Yes, but if you do the whole Conanesque theme then you would be playing episodic short stories with lots of down time in between for laying up and healing.

I played 3 sessions and it went like this.

Session 1: Danger in Pictland (Wilderness Adventure)

Session 2: Thieves of the City (Urban intrigue)

Session 3: Sailing the Black Coast (Felt like colonial Africa)

All good swashbuckling fun!

That is true. I've heard of people playing that way. I am going to run a C&C Conan game soon, but want to make it more of a grand epic rather than episodic. But doing it that way does sound appealing.

Conan always seems to be about the episodic adventure. At one time I set out to do a standard D&D-like campaign using the Atlantean Edition. The episodic nature might make it feel more like REH. But none of that matters if CONAN is being played and all are having fun.
