f**k Canada Customs

First I would like to thank TLG for going through all that hassle to get me Umbrage Saga and other stuff. They went above and beyond, even though I am not a fan of the shredded paper packing... that stuff got everywhere.

No, you'll understand why I hate Canada Customs with a passion.

So I got my order today. Hmmmm...lets see, TLG marked that package *gift* as they said they would, which was totally ignored by CC. They didn't end up charging me almost $40.00 customs charges like last time, this time it was only $10 (But whoever filled out the customs papers valued the box contents over $100, the mind boggles. Am I really surprised by the ineptitude? I wish I could say I am, but I am not.). So, I paid it, I'm going to dispute it, I don't care if it is only $10 those monkeys (and that is a insult to monkeys... sorry monkeys) are not getting away with this extortion.

But, to add insult, some idiot, that obviously only had one hand, taped up the box, after tearing it apart- like there was a bomb inside- so badly that they left the sides open, water got in and destroyed both boxes. Somehow the other books managed to escape the carnage (I think it was due to the boxes sucking up all the water before it reached them.) BTW, thanks TLG for sending two.. too bad neither box got away unscathed.

Now, here comes the beauty part. Not, only do they charge me for opening the box (last time they charged me $10, now it was only $5, which asserts that I am right in thinking that they just pull numbers out of their asses, it was the same f**k box!) but it says very clearly, on the dispute papers, that they are not responsible for any damage, just missing items. So the Customs officials can fling poo at my package, do a half assed job repackaging it and I have no recourse to get them to pay for the damages! Must be wonderful having those kind of working conditions that you don't have to give a f**k how you treat the packages that come through customs.

So, yeah... f**k you Canada customs!

If it helps our monkeys are allowed to do the same thing to our packages when they inspect them. However, I have been lucky the half dozen or so times I have had packages inspected, so I apparently got monkeys with a conscience.

Hey, it is Thunder Bay after all (joke! )

Man, reading that gave me high blood pressure. I've had similar encounters in the UK. When I moved here and shipped my stuff from Australia, they made me pay import duty on all my personal music CDs (stuff I'd had for years). There was no option to dispute it, either pay up or some monkey gets to keep my stuff or sell it down at the pub.

Similarly, I recently bought a computer game (flight sim) from the US and FedEx made me pay for import duty and administration which totaled signifcantly more than the game itself.

Ha. You try living here. I recently bought a game on ebay for $25. The shipping (it was virtually weightless and compact) was over $40. And to make matters worse, it was coming from the next province over.

I won't get into the crap service I have seen coming from outside Canada to within. I feel for ya Ironside, been there several times.

Its why I rarely order stuff here. Seeing there is no gaming store here, I pick up 95% of my stuff via pdf's. Its a wonder Canada Customs don't try earn a buck off that too.

I hate to say it, but they're far more likely to open your package if you mark it as a gift. Canada Customs is very aware that people ask stores, ebay, etc. to mark packages as gifts, so that's a risk you take when it designate it as such. Which isn't to say that they don't open non-gifts, but it's far less likely.

As for the damage, no mail service offers to pay for damages, that's what they sell insurance for. However, if you contact them and discuss the fact that the packages weren't damaged due to transit, but rather negligence, you may be able to find a solution.

By the looks of it, they didn't even bother to look at the packing slip. The estimated cost of the contents was over $100, where on the packing slip it clearly shows that it is a little over $30. So, if what you say is true, why have I been reimbursed, custom charges- in the past- when this has happened. I've put in for a reimbursement for this one to. It isn't customs job to use voodoo bones to guess what each shippers intentions are.

Again, no. The customs terms of service clearly state that they are not responsible, even for their asshattery. Something you only learn after they destroyed your package. Which still doesn't matter because any future package damage, this information only tells you to not bother trying to get money out of Canada customs for their dickery.
