Prime bonuses
Prime bonuses
Hi-
I was thinking about providing a bonus or two for each prime. In a similar way that Str and Con prime characters get a +2 bonus to their encumbrance rating, i was thinking all primes should have an extra one-time bonus.
Maybe Con prime grants 2 extra hit points at 1st level, for instance.
I was thinking it should be something that a prime would not normally affect. For example, saving throws already receive a benefit from a prime attribute (improved CB), so this extra bonus can't be for saves.
Any thoughts as to what would make a good benefit for each of the attributes?

Definitely an interesting idea.
Maybe INT Prime gets you 2 additional languages, or an additional spell/per spell level? I don't know about that though, since the spell caster is required to have it as a Prime in the first place. So maybe just stick with the languages.
Taking WIS Prime gets you a character ability of "Spot/Perception/Sense Motive?"
DEX Prime gives you the character ability of Juggling?
Anyways, interesting idea, but I need to think about better ways to go about doing it.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

A good idea, I think! I'll see if I can throw a few ideas out there.
Str Prime- Bonuses to things like grappling and overbearing, perhaps.
Con Prime- +2 hp at first level
Dex Prime- +5 to movement speed
Int Prime- An extra language or two
Wis Prime- +1 to initiative (Perhaps?) Initiative is as much about sensory awareness and rapid judgement as it is about speed.
Cha Prime- Cha is always the tricky one to quantify ... one thing I've toyed with is a small amount of extra gold at the beginning, the modifier x5 perhaps. To reflect the economic advantages of charisma.

I think things are better left as is. The idea is interesting, and could provide some interesting character development aspects...but...it seems entirely too close to something a powergamer or rules lawyer will (try to) exploit.
I would award the bonuses in conjunction with a good background story...basing the award on the primes. This makes both good role-playing sense and makes the player work at justifying why they should have such a bonus in a manner that only helps the storyline, not just the character IMO.

Well, that's why i said it should NOT be something related to any Siege checks.
Strength and Constitution already get an extra bonus- the +2 to EV. So it seems fair the other attributes could get something too.

That depends on the benefit given. I'm not taking about anything major here. Just a one-time bonus at character creation that doesn't improve.

It is not a bad idea. I just think it is delicate to make sure that the benefits given don't make some primes better than others. Finding fun "flavor" bonuses would be cool, however. I'd be careful and follow strength/constitution (whcih add to emcumberance) and give non-combat bonuses.

That's exactly what i'm going for. The problem is i'm having trouble coming up with some ideas for all of the abilities.

I tried this before here is what I cam up with
STR/CON +2 Encumberance
DEX +3 AC when wearing no armor, and it not work with magic bonus to armor.
INT +3 Languages
CHR since CHR represnts will power I let them reroll any one roll per session. They willed themselves to suceed.
WIS gave a bonus to Sanity house rules I was using.

There are two novels that can change a 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Hmmm....thinking on this a bit;
STR: One auto check success per week. I call it the superman rule...so those thick iron bars needing bent in order to escape certain doom, that cart full of firewood crushing the peasant to be lifted, or bracing the collapsing support in the mine shaft with your back...sort of stuff.
DEX: +1 to checks vs trip and grapple attacks being nimble, light on the feet, and just plain squirmy as a greased pig.
CON: After a failed save, gains a second save vs disease or poison once a week, that tough immune system refusing to give up the fight vs such ill effects.
INT: +2 bonus to researching spells, local history, legends, and such information.
WIS: The character gains a +2-5% bonus when selling goods and a 2-5% deduction when buying goods due to their good judgement and experience dealing with people.
CHA: Able to remain conscious to -2 HP, though unable to take any action other than stuffing their guts back into themselves as they refuse to blackout or succumb to their wounds.
Some ideas at any rate.

Well, i'm trying to keep the benefits to something outside of a Siege check. Anything that is a Siege check already gains a substantial benefit- an effective +6 bonus for being prime. So an extra bonus for something they're already gaining a bonus for seems overkill.
The bonus to AC and extra languages are possibilities. I personally like a +2 HP for Con (instead of the EV benefit, just to be different). Useful, but not Siege related.
