[AGP] Wilderlands Journal #1 Call for Article Ideas

Post by jamesmishler »

Okay folks, here's the dealio...

I always wanted Adventure Games Journal to be more of a general game magazine rather than a magazine dedicated to the Wilderlands. However, I have a bunch of small, fiddly articles about the Wilderlands that do not qualify for a full booklet or even PDF of themselves... so I will be launching the Wilderlands Journal, the "stepson" of AGJ, as soon as I compile 24 to 36 pages worth of such articles.

Such articles are written in between the "big stuff" I'm working on right now or "devolve" from booklet ideas that don't wuite make it to full growth. Each issue of the WJ will be published when the "slush pile" gets big enough.

Now I need you to tell me... what do YOU want to know about the Wilderlands that will fit in a small article? I know what I want to write about, but I want to make sure the journal appeals to a wider interest base.

And yes, this will be a Subscription item, almost needless to say!

I like anything that can inspire an adventure, which pretty much everything you have done does very well!

Plus I buy stuff because my imagination is largely burnt out and on life support, so I am very confident I'll like just about any ideas you put into it.

Typically I find little location write ups handy, Villages with unusual events and NPC's in them, lone, abandoned looking towers/manors/ruins that have a neat story hidded inside, and the like.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

How about something using the horde of winged apes that ravished the City-State region?

Second that idea, anything about the Demon Empire or Dragon Empire would be cool.

Random tables for generating houri garb perhaps?

Totally agree with what Treebore said.

Setting Relevant Short stories might be nice too.

Possibly tied to locations that might give DMs/gamers adventure hooks and ideas.

One or two per issue from you or other contributors.

Perhaps the occasional otherwise totally unknown contributor?

Maybe even a contest once in a while (One per year?) for Short Stories and/or Mini-Adventures.

I know that is common for other publications, but I have always liked the results of such endeavors.

The religious festivals and rituals of the Wilderlands.

For example:

Any Snake Cults that practice human sacrifice (a la Conan the Barbarian)?

Ritualised combat for the title of priesthood? (or a noble title)

Hereditary mutations among cult members?

Jousting holidays/feasts?
