Nice compliment for TLG
Nice compliment for TLG
So I started a new campaign in November, one with six players, four of whom are new to roleplaying, and two of whom have no old-school experience (ages range from 24-40). Naturally I'm using C&C for the modified Wilderlands setting I've set up.
After 8 or 9 sessions two of the players came to me and said they really were digging the gaming and were, in fact, in the process of designing their own space rpg campaign. I said "Sounds great. What system are you using?" They said, "We like C&C so much for its free-flowing style that we are trying to adapt C&C to space."
Pretty nice compliment, eh?
So then, of course, I suggested they look into Starsiege

Awesome!
Should be easy, I adapted Traveller to the SIEGE system well enough.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

The best compliment I can give to C&C, an it is slightly abstract, is this: there is a store near where I live called Monty's Book Swap. It has been there for over twenty years and it is in the basement of a prosthetic limb shop. Most of the store is used books and antiques, but right up front is a big area where there are used RPG books dating back from the Beginning to now. You have always been able to go to Monty's and find old and rare stuff. Wulfgarn asked me to find him Grenadier Orcs of the Severed Claw minis...and I did. Generally you can assume any old role-playing stuff will be there. I bought FASA Doctor Who stuff there.
Anyhow, I was there last month looking for some stuff and I realized that there was no C&C anything, anywhere. Out of every RPG system I could remember, there was not one C&C book./
In the KC area is someone sells their game books they generally go to Monty's.
No one has sold their C&C books there. I asked the owner, he has not seen one book ever.

After we'd wrapped up a D&D3 campaign, and then playtested Pathfinder the FRPG for about 6 or 8 months we dove into a C&C campaign. I'd been running an off-and-on C&C game for awhile and was familiar with the system so we started an Epic dungeon crawl (I know that word is overused these days, but it is Castle Whiterock, what else can you call it, lol)
After everybody got a taste of the game system almost every player said something along the lines of "I like this game. Let's keep playing this one."
Even the guys that were quiet about what system they liked when we asked if they would rather play a one-shot adventure over the holidays of D&D3 or something all said "Nah, let's not." They're ruined for other FRPGs now.

Yeah, my group still holds 3.5 dear to their heart, but I am converting them. My narrative style of DMing does not lend well to 3.5. I run a world where a character must justify everything about their character. For example, the Dragon Shaman prestige class is a bastard to obtain.
I run C&C, FASA Star Trek, and the Dragon Age RPG now. C&C is my only regular weekly game, though.
