Tenure yay

Well, after slogging through a pretty intense multi-stage process, I received my letter from my Dean today conferring tenure and promotion to Associate Professor at UW-Manitowoc...

There's still one more step before it's "official," but that's usually a formality for the Provost and the UW-Colleges central administration to sign off, so knock on wood.... but the hard steps are done at last!

It is too bad educators do not receive the monetary compensation that they deserve.

I guess we do come from a society that pays their gladiators.

But beware the Faustian pact. Once you have tenure, it's very difficult to move to a new university unless they also offer tenure. I sit mouldering in my university for that reason. Especially since I want to move home to Australia and they have no permanent academic positions.

Still, congratulations and I hope it's a life-long marriage that you both enjoy.
