the rest of them. For free, for those not aware of this yet.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Nice catch, Tree. I have been waiting for these for awhile. Oddly, the actual www site seems down. Hopefully they do the other ones too.

Now, I just need to find someone to run a game of Talislanta for us in the Thursday Irregulars slot

Already downloaded all the PDFs from that site. What is missing?

Hehe... it's a big book. Got a copy second-hand a couple of years ago. Looks interesting but never delved deeply into it.

Thanks for the PDF links though!

Thanks for the list.

There is an interesting discussion at rpgnet of the project to release these for free
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=475602&page=27

One notable quote from the game creator is:
SMS wrote:
For those who asked when the Talislanta website will be back up and running, we're shooting for April 1. That's the date when the final clause in Morrigan's license (a 90-day sell-off period) expires. It might be a little later than that, as the kind people who volunteered to help get the site up are doing this in their spare time.

Finally: yes, the Tal website was accidentally online for a few days. And as mentioned here, if you downloaded any PDFs during that time, you probably got some unedited versions, and you definitely didn't get any of the Morrigan PDFs. Go back again Once the site is officially up and running, you'll find a lot more stuff, in a lot better condition.

Hope that answers those questions. If there are any other Q's, feel free to fire away and I'll do my best to answer them.

Thanks again to all of you for your interest in Talislanta -

Steve

So Hopefully at the beginning of April, some of the ones I have been waiting for will be available.

Unfortunately, in the same rpgnet thread,
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?p=1 ... st11882439

there is a list of titles they have not yet scanned because they don't have copies and some I want are on there. So we may have to wait a bit yet

thanks for the link, Aramis. It's nice to hear about the fate of Talislanta from the man himself. It's always been one of my favorite settings ... and systems.

Here is a little video intro to Talislanta. It's produced by the guy who wrote the game (he did the music too) and shows off the distinct Talislantan art:

I can't believe I never played this. I've been reading the PDFs the last week or so and there's lots to like. I am inspired by all of the templates, and the core rule is a bit like SIEGE in its simplicity.

Pretty awesome.

According to the FAQ on the site, they recommend playing either 4th or 5th. The older books are mainly for reference. The major difference between the two editions, besides presentation, is a stylistic difference.

Talislanta 4th utilizes archetypes.

Talislanta 5th utilizes life paths, aka careers.

I prefer archetypes so I would prefer 4th edition. But at the same time I would be using the 5th edition world book for the updates to the setting.

There is definitely a lot of "cool" to it, but I have two problems First I am a "The Arcanum" grognard, in that is what I would prefer to play, since it came first, but as I understand it is considered to be the "future" of Talislanta.

My second problem is I have never found a group interested in playing Talislanta or Arcanum ever since I got stuck on Arcanum, so have never had the opportunity to develop a liking of Talislanta over Arcanum.

I'm something of a straight-edger. The prologue states that Talislanta was inspired by a hashish-fueled hallucination. That kind of turned me off.

So was Alice in Wonderland, many great poems, and other great stories.

True. I believe the story of Shangri-La was written in an opium den.
