Woot! My Dungeon Greyhawk maps arrived!
Woot! My Dungeon Greyhawk maps arrived!
A few weeks ago I was out in my garage going through my "over flow" of RPg stuff, which I keep in those big plastic tubs you can get at Wal Mart/Target/Etc... checking to make sure the lids were on, they had no cracks/holes etc... and searching for stuff to use in my new Wilderlands campaign.
Anyways, in a perfectly sealed box, I found a mouse had somehow gotten inside and had eaten up bits and pieces of what looked to be maps. I pulled them out and they were my Faerun and Greyhawk maps that Paizo had published in Dungeon 10 or so years ago, and they had only chewed up my GH maps. Not a lot, mostly around the edges, but still, damaged.
So I was all depressed, thinking of how hard the map is to replace, and the prices I have seen teh set go for on eBay, etc....
So last week I was browsing around the Paizo on line catalogue (yeah, I know, the smart thing to save money is to not look in the first place!) and guess what I found? They were still selling the print versions of 3 of the 4 Dungeon mags that had the maps, and still sold the map from Issue 118 all by itself!
So I was able to re obtain the whole set, including 3 of the Dungeon issues that I had lost in a house fire years ago, all for under $30, including Paizo's shipping fee's!
So I promptly ordered them and they have arrived today, and I am a happy GH fan once again!
Woot!

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Those maps are nice. I had a subscription to both mags back then, and I still picked up an extra copy of them all from the FLGS.

I never advanced the Greyhawk timeline past the box set, but I have seen those maps and they impressed me. Much better than the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer map.
Now that I think of it, I do have the Gazetteer book, but not the map.

Yeah, good deal that Paizo still has them. Those 4 issues of Dungeon Magazine were larger printings than most other issues of Dungeon. I guess when Erik Mona is publisher (at the time) he made the smart decision to keep those bad boys in stock.
Lucky.

Well, they are getting real low on the Issue 118 map, and that is the one they do not have a physical copy of Dungeon for either.
Have to admit I almost have myself talked into buying another back up copy of the set.

Glad to hear you were able to get new GH maps Tree. I still have and use mine, but I am thinking of ordering another set since your post.

At the time I didn't know they were going to have greater quantities of these issues so when they were released I picked up 4 copies of each mag (1 for the subscription + 3 others).

While the Grayhawk maps from Dungeon magazine are new classics for sure, if you are going to get the best, I suggest the utter awesomeness of the cartography of Anna Bernamalm:
http://www.ghmaps.net/
Get these bad boys printed out poster-sized. I;ve been using these for years now and in my estimation, there are none sweeter.

You need to bring that to Con on the Cob and convince me of its awesomeness.

@ Trav:
Indeed, those maps there represent about 3 years worth of work. Granted, the artist doesn't work on them full time and hasn't updated her website in 1.4 years...

A guy I knew only by his roleplay name of Inukshuk mapped out the world of Gor using software like this. It was easily the most detailed map of that world ever seen and really brought that world to life.

Yeah, I think this software (and obvously the artist as well ) did an excellent job of bringing the 10 or so regions of the world of Greyhawk to life. The artist said she studied topography of Earth to fill in the missing details and scoured all of the canonical sources to get as much information as possible. What I really like about these Greyhawk maps is that she didn't use artistic license to "spiffy" up the maps. They are straight topographical maps but with names, boundries, heraldry, etc. I love that realistic approach. For me, these maos have really added a sense of realism to Greyhawk and because of that I strive to maintain a true sense of wilderness exploration, survival, and detail when PCs venture out from the walls of the City of Hawks. To makes these wilderness treks detailed, I use the amazing resource of Mr. Gary Gygax: World Builder. Together with these maps, the mundane wilderness is anything but.
The maps that Treebore mentioned in the OP I still use as a general overview of the Flanaess. Because in that regard, they are spectacular.
