Man, I do not understand the hate for BSG, or remakes in general. BSG was an awesome show (the ending was horrific).
I liked the Star Trek remake. Does that help?
Seriously, the Trek remake felt like Star Trek. GINO made changes simply for the sake of change. Starbuck and Boomer didn't need to be women. Cylons were manufactured by extinct aliens and not made by humans. Cylons didn't have simulagents infiltrated into the fleet at the very beginning. Baltar didn't stay with the fleet. And, the civilian costumes were so 20th Century.
The costumes are a minor quibble. The point is the entire series could easily have been done using the original premise. It would have made for a better show all around, and you could still have the drama and conflicts that appeared in GINO. Instead, we got something pretending to be BSG. It didn't feel like BSG. Thus, GINO: Galactica In Name Only.

I "acquired" a download of FASA's BSG wargame, and it looked interesting.
But, here's your colonial viper.

When sci-fi was new, i watched it a bit. now a days never,
It deffinatly went to hell. What it was supposed to be and what it is long since parted.
Reminds me of cartoon network... a channel for all the old favorites to be reshown. So much for that even cartoon network has reality shows now.. ugh...
TV is drek, if i want to truely be entertained i look the interwebs.
Only reason i watch TV now is for noise in the house and weather channel/news.

Cartoon Network rocked! When it had awesome animes and new cartoons as well as the old Hanna Barbara ones (where the villains would say things like "Our next dastardly plot" or "I won't fail next time", lol)
I didn't know they've tanked as well.
I guess that's why internet TV has been so popular. You'd think a network would actually try to compete. Nuh-uh ...

I actually had high hopes for that show when I heard it was coming out. I'm a fan of the Buster Crabbe series.

Me too. I'm even a huge fan of the campy 1980 movie filled with hotties in statin hotpants and the kick ass Queen soundtrack.
Then I tune to scifi and I saw that ...drek....they I read about how the dippy exectutive wanting to move scifi's programing away from science fiction to wrestling and reality garbage (what?) and well, scyfy is dead to me.

I also had high hopes for Flash given that other Friday night shows had been pretty good, but...What little I saw of Flash was so sucktacular that it never saw the light of day on dvd. Farscape was more akin to the spirit of Flash than that series was. For old time's sake, I'm a fan of the 1980 movie(even thouh most consider it cheesy. That said, it kicked new Flash in the a**e. So did the Crabbe series. There was a 1950's(?) series with Steve Holland? that wasn't terribly great either.

Guess I'm in the minority. I love both versions of Galactica and am looking forward to the (possible) movie. Theres a lot on Scifi er SyFy, whatever, that I do watch. Caprica, SGU (the only SG I really like), reruns of Jericho, and awesomely crappy monster movies. Though I would like to see them bring back more older shows, I'm good with their original programming.

I think it was telling when Sci-Fi changed their name to SyFy. I'm sure some savvy marketing person felt that this would make the 'brand' more universal and appealing to those who don't 'understand' Science Fiction. Therefore broadening the market. Ughh!
Anyway, I thought I might offer some hope to you all. I was surprised that no one mentioned Buck Rogers, who can forget the wonderful Twiggy. That being said, with the rise of the internet, one free option for all of us (relatively speaking) is that of Webisodes. TV shows released directly to the internet. One that looks most promising is this:

That's right Mr. Rogers (that's the one with the Blaster not the one who changes shoes and talks to puppets) is returning in a new series.

What!? After all these years of calling it Twiggy and no one corrected me...all the signs "Bring Twiggy Back" and "Twiggy Lives". I'm thinking of the robot from Buck Rogers and everyone else is thinking the British Super Model.Go0gleplex wrote:

That show was drek. Go read the original Buck Rodgers in the 25th century book.
I think, at least hope that this show will stick more to the original story line, at least it's starting out at the great war. Here's hoping it's a mine he stuck in and the gases keep him alive awaking him far in the future of earth when some has completely taken it over and they begin a resistance movement. (I think that is correct for the novel's timeline haven't read it, just from what I've seen on the web.)
And I'll be more than willing to never see "Tiwki" make an appearence in this one. (He isn't in the novel is he?)

Ace, I thought it was good for its day, but my Buck Rogers geek cred goes like this: Armageddon 2419, The Warlords of Han (combined in an omnibus edition), the entire television series on DVD which included the theatrical release of the pilot episode, the novelization of the theatrical release which added a lot more background information but was based on an earlier version of the script, the soundtrack to the theatrical release, and a couple of the '30s/'40s serials in a combined and edited format. At one time I also had the complete run of newspaper strips in an omnibus edition, but that book was stolen from me, and it's so scarce I'd have to look in antique bookstores in order to replace it.
Just based on the look, I believe the new story will be closer to the original.

Erin Grey was supposed to be at last year's Planet Comicon. But all day long both days we kept walking by her table (I wanted an autograph) and she had "just stepped outside" according to the guy sitting there (that looked nothing at all like Erin Grey and I suspect was just there to make sure no one ran off with all her glossies).
