Postal Tracking... Off The Track

Post by serleran »

Alright, so I bought a bunch of stuff from this nice guy in Canada who shipped the order even before it had been paid for (I guess that's a perk of having done business in the past) and it's got expedition and tracking, so I load the good old Canada Post website to see what's up and I get told that it's out of Canada in the destination foreign country. That's good. Now where is it? I check the USPS site and it tells me that the package is in New Jersey and has been in New Jersey for, at least according to it, 2 weeks. Now, I don't know about you, but to me expedited means "get it there" so it really should not take this long to hop a state. Oh well, I'm not worried that it won't get here, only annoyed at the inability to effectively track its progress... then again, I did send a priority, delivery confirmation package to Illinois and it took 5 weeks to get there (yeah, priority no longer means 2-3 days) and the tracking system didn't show it as arrived until another week. Great.

Oh well. Mild rant over.

Course, being on the "no-fly-list" does help either.

Actually, I am on that list. Apparently terrorists like to try to enter the country using the names of ex-presidents.

Shipping is a mystery. International shipping is an even greater mystery.

I've got nothing.

John, are you serious? (about the Ex-President no fly list?)

What a pain in the a**e.

All this US - Canada shipping issues has me thinking... maybe we should rent a truck, drive stuff across, and then ship it from the destination country (for a small fair upcharge, of course). any takers?

When Canada Customs crawls back out of your butt with their microscope, let me know.

I never have a problem with Canadian Customs... First I ship most of my work gear, parts, and accessories ahead, directly to the destination. You can even avoid Tariffs, if it's done as part of an ongoing maintenance or service contract (You need a copy of that contract with you, of course).Just make sure you also have a proper work permit for Canada, and you are good to go. Coming back across the border though into the US, is another story entirely these days.

They weren't overly keen on letting me in, the last time I came back.

Used to work for those Postal Bozos. Still the "best" service in the world, but sometimes it doesn't seem to be saying that much. 'Course, as an ex-employee my perspective is a bit jaded.

They suck!
