Most Desirous RPG Item...
Most Desirous RPG Item...
Kind peoples with esteemed something-or-others, what single (and for this discussion, I'd like to keep it to published) RPG item would you like to have? I suppose a single item could be something like "The Enemy Within Campaign for Warhammer 1st edition" (which is multiple modules) though I would like to refrain from "all of Campaign Setting XXXXX" or "everything for Game System YYYYY."
For me, the item that I want more than any other, and one I will be saving for quite some time is an OD&D woodgrain, 1st print. That is closely followed by a true first print of Tunnels and Trolls (the unicorn cover) because it would fit very nicely into my "collecting goals."

Yeah, me too.
I'd also like an original Empire of the Petal Throne boxed set.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I also have eveything RPG releated item I most desire. Sure, if a woodgrain 1st print becomes available to me for a price I'd pay, sure. But that is not likely to happen. I'm happy with what I have at this time.

That is old? Yeah, I have everything from the past I want, and I have everything currently available that I want.
Like Omote, if a collectible item I do not have comes along at a price I am willing to pay, I'll get it, but there is nothing that I am actively looking for, I now have everything I want. I was until a few months ago hunting for Judges Guild and Arduin stuff, but I now have it all. I needed replacement Greyhawk maps printed by Paizo in their Dungeon line, but I recently got those too.
So I am not looking for anything old or new, only what is coming out in the future. I am up to date on all the RPG's I play.

I liked the Marvel superhero game.
in terms of collecting, I'm not actively seeking right now.
Though i do sort of regret selling my Ravenloft boxed set with the tarrokka deck and fortune telling dice.
I'm very practical, since I barely play, and if I do its C&C, that's all I need.

Got all the FASA Who stuff(excluding mini's), and Marvel advanced set. Not bragging, just saying. That said, I'd like to have the rest of the FASA Trek material, although I have a good chunk of it. Would also like to have most of the 1st D&D mod's, of which I have very few. I love those Otus covers. Wouldn't mind having all the 3rd ed. Gamma World mod's as well. An OD&D set would be nice, and I'm sure I can think of more.

This is the first item that popped into my mind too.

1st print OD&D woodie grain boxed set, followed by a 1st print Boot Hill.

I feel like such a boob over the Petal Throne boxed set. I ran acrossed it a couple of years ago at a used book store. Opened it up and looked at the contents, all very fine +, and, then, promptly put it back on the shelf. It wasn't until I got home that I did a little research to figure out what the heck I was looking at. Needless to say, I dropped the ball big-time on that one! D'oh! Life is sometimes funny that way! Someday I just might come across another. If not, I think I'll live!!

Well played.
Based on what I've heard, "Beyond the Mountains of Madness" for pre-D20 Call of Cthulhu is a very hot commodity.

I'd like to see/have some or all of Frank's modules, but simply will not pay big bucks for any D&D material.
I have all the OD&D PDFs, so that's good - because again, I wouldn't pay the big money. Really, they are just not worth it, IMO.
Luckily and happily, most everything else is available.

I agree with the Frank modules - I have them in PDF and that's about as close as I'm going to get.

I'm not into collectibles unless I can use them.
I bought the OD&D pfd and skimmed thru it once. It looked to me to be something still being developed...still evolving it's way into AD&D. could not tell if the pencil marks were from the author or the original owner.
I cut my teeth on AD&D. Kind of like reading Tolkien...afterwards everything else is just a different version.
I know...that may be heresy on this forum.
But if we are wishing what the heck...
original Gamma World.
Castle Zygag back where EGG had wanted it.
And any freaking artwork from DAT otherwise known as Tramp!
How does someone just stop making art?
What I would give to see original stuff published with his artwork!

How? When you get screwed by the powers that be - at least, from what I've heard and read. Hell, for all we know, he could have a house filled with artwork that we've never seen! He may not have stopped doing art, just not doing for others...

Good point Deo, but when those powers that be have passed on and moved on years ago what gives?
He is such a legend that he could dictate his own terms...at least to many publishers and we would be like...ok you got it!
I would be honored to have him in print but the word on the street is "don't call me, don't try to contact me, whatever the project is I am not interested"
Is it really about the "powers that be" or is it about the relationship with the artist and fans?
We would buy chicken scratches if EGG wrote it, not because he was a genius designer, but because we loved him for what he gave us. how it made us feel like kids again to read his quirky prose.
Folks love Jim Holloway not for his technical expertise but because of how his art makes us FEEL. How it brings us back to those days when our minds were fresh, young, and still amazed. Jim was not aware he had so many loyal fans until he came back into the "scene"
(Hopefully those same fans are also opening their wallets) hint! hint!
I am sure the level of love and support for Tramp would be very similar if not more powerful.
Screw the powers that be!
I love Tramp and I want to see his art shared. Simple as that.
Btw: got any contact info???
