Postal service was snacking on my M&T of Aihrde! :)

Post by DaveyB »

Seems the postal service was hungry and decided to snack on the spine of my M&T of Aihrde today! Behold:

Perhaps the Trolls could use boxes instead of mailing envelopes for future soft-back books to prevent damage to their products during shipping? Same thing happened to my copy of "Of Gods and Monsters", although not quite as bad. Luckily it's just a minor annoyance in that there is a somewhat permanent crease in the pages where the spine is bent.

Was it a bubble mailer? If so, I find that they are notorious for being annoying, though placing a little bit of cardboard inside does help quite a lot. I tend to avoid this because I make the Trolls send stuff in a box (ie, I order more than one thing.)

No, it was a regular USPS Priority Mail envelope inside of a slightly thicker manilla shipping envelope which had a slight amount of padding inside of it. Both envelopes were in good shape, which is why I'm puzzled as to how it got dinged considering the envelopes were pretty much pristine.....?

Hmm, the case of the munched-on monster tome.... I blame Moriarty.

Yeah...they got a slight bit of one corner on mine as well. While the envelopes prevent most damage, they won't prevent damage from flexing, just make it less likely to occur. Sort of like chainmail.

Yeah, the USPS pretty much crams anything not in a box (there is a joke in there somewhere ). I do my best to catch my carrier before he can fold my TLG stuff in half. Better packaging would be a blessing.

Well, things that can be folded, I'm okay with (like Crusader). It when things that can't be folded...or shouldn't be, rather...that irk me. Least my carrier now doesn't even try - if it's too big he brings it to the door.

Typed like honey to an ear full of wine. I've got to agree. A small thing, like a magazine can be re-flattened. A book, like a 256 page softcover... not so much.

Sometimes my Crusaders get a little messed up. I try to remind the carrier, but forgot this time. I usually tell them to deliver to the carport. Still yet, damage can be done in those white envelopes. The bubble mailers aren't much better without two sheets of cardboard inside. When ordering Saavage Worlds books from Studio 2, I used to go with UPS. It was min. 8.00, but it's all they offered. Recently usps was offered, and I went thew cheap route with a Solomon Kane hardcover. It was delivered to the carport, but sustained slight lower spine damage, and a few small dings. It's probably still in Fine + condition, but I may send it back and go ups box. Don't get me wrong, TLG and Studio 2 both do a great job.

I've only had one item damaged from the Trolls, it was slight, and wasn't the mail person who delivered at the door. We've a big mailbox and priority mail size envelopes fit nicely.

My biggest gripe is at UPS who no longer bother to knock on the door, and drop packages onto my porch which has no overhang to protect it from the rain. As you might know, Oregon gets a lot of rain over the winter six months. What makes this worse is I've had boxes soaked that would fit behind our glassed in screen door, and have been home waiting for the package when they didn't bother to knock. Give me the U.S. postal service over the UPS lazy muckers any day.

Yeah, for all the grief and horror stories about USPS, this is the ball-breaker for UPS. They lost the contract for Dell because they left computers and peripherals unattended on or about porches. Mail carriers leave stuff, too, but when I worked, I always tried to hide it from view, protected, and leave notice as to its location.
