Serleran Gone For A While

Post by serleran »

Well, my damn USB wireless network adapter decided it would be good to break, so I'm being forced to use my fiancee's computer instead, meaning I cannot work on any projects, and can't spend all day on here. So, I'll be taking a break from board-posting until I'm able to connect again.

I'd have used an ethernet cable but the only one I have that is long enough is a freaking crossover, and that's useless to me.

Hope to see you back soon. Look on the bright side, it wasn't a fried motherboard.

Yikes, yeah it's tough when something giving us internet connectivity fails. I can't live without being connected, so I have several computers available. If my router were to fail, I'd now have an excuse to buy a wireless one. If my cable goes down, I have dial-up backup. Electrical power failures are rare, and in that case, I don't have a backup . . . but at least I know I get to start raiding the fridge!

I've got a 100' ethernet cable right here, chief.

Funny you should say that. Just last week, prior to my trip to Vegas, I got a BIOS error on boot-up. A quick look-up using my laptop on Dell's website and viola - I'm the new owner of a fried motherboard on my main PC.

Waiting for replacement parts as I speak.

20,

I suffered that pain this past June/July. I just bought a new computer. The fried one was 3 years old anyways. I looked at ti as an upgrade. At least I didn't ned to buy a new monitor.

Funny, since I can only find ethernet cables when I'm looking for a crossover. Don't know how ambitious you are but you could change that crossover to an ethernet by cutting and splicing a couple of wires.

Dude, that doesn't sound like any fried motherboard I've ever encountered. In most cases of motherboard damage, the computer shouldn't even boot. I suggest having someone with the know-how take a closer look at your computer.

...and here's a site that shows how to do that.

I'm going to be gone even longer. Not only did the sudden snowstorm decide to have fun with the overall power of the house, but my computer has elected to burn out its video card, meaning I'm essentially screwed as I couldn't even get the stuff I wanted to burn onto DVD or USB freebie space and I'm limited in when I can be online. So, much slower work for me, or rather... little I can really do as 99% of my projects are all in electronic format and I can't look at them much less print them or continue them.

Sucks too, as I just bought an internal wireless card to use instead of the USB version I was using (less chance of it just falling and snapping, which is what the last one did.)

Anyway... I guess I'll be around, and checking emails, so if you really need me, the address can be found in the sticky thread in the Rules forum.

Oh, and Troll Lord Steve... I asked if you had my number and you said you did, so... you can just call if you'd prefer, assuming I can do anything for you.

I can work, but not at the rate at which I am accustomed....

Have fun.
