Free Codex of Erde

Post by Sir Ironside »

For a lot of reasons, I'd like to find a home for my copy of Codex of Erde. A home that it'll actually be used.

As long as the shipping will be in North America I'd even be happy to pay the shipping. I just want it to find a good home.
First come first served as that is the only fair way.

Gracious offer, but one on which I will pass simply because it would look pretty next to the other two on the shelf and you want it to go to a person who needs it... and I do not. I hope it gets there.

I'd love to have it and would be glad to give you a few bucks for it...unless you are just dying to send it to me.
I am brand new to C&C and just bought a few items today from the TLG store.

I live in NC.

Cheers! Nice to see books getting a good home instead of gathering dust or being pulped.

Very kind, Sir Iron. Part of me wonders why you'd give up such a piece, but a kind gesture nonetheless!

Well my time as having rpg's as my hobby is coming to a close. I haven't gamed in years and I'm just accepting the fact that the future just doesn't seem to hold a very bright future. I'm gonna hold onto the books I have and if things start to look up, then I'll have them, plus the announcement that there is a Airdhe book in the future means I'd just get that providing the stars align right.

It just makes sense to give this book to someone that'll actually use it.

It does make good sense, good sir. I applaud you for your generosity.

I'm sorry to hear your gaming future looks bleak. RPGs have been my hobby for almost a quarter of a century (next year will be 25, in fact, starting in 1986...yeah, a late bloomer) and I honestly couldn't tell you what I'd do without rpg's as my hobby. It probably saved me from "running the streets" as a kid or getting in with the "bad crowd" through my teens and early twenties. Sure there were bouts of no gaming, sometimes for a few years at a time. Hopefully this is what's happening with you, Iron - just a "down cycle" (albeit a few years longer that you probably want it to be!). Hopefully you'll be rolling those d6's making a new character sometime real soon.

And if you ever come down to sunny Central Florida, I'm sure you can grab a seat at my table!

Well, I really appreciate it, Sir! Can't wait to get it!

And like Lord Dynel said, just give it some time. For some of us, gaming comes in cycles and opportunities, in time, will come back around for you. Peace and Happy 4th!!

Gaming was just that gaming. Started in 1979 and had a pretty full slate from that date till about the mid ninties (Never stopped me from enjoying the bold above ). After a move, the gaming experiences took a sharp nose dive with sporadic, short lived games from then till now.The last real gaming, which was measured in weeks, was about 5 years ago. Nada since. During these very long downtimes it resulted in me basically collecting books and participating on game forums. Now I've just accepted that it is no longer a viable hobby and one that I am growing less interested in.

Yeah, we could really use some more gamers down here. I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods LD, but Southwest FL is a barren waste land when it comes to role playing.

Kudos to you Sir Ironside for your generous gift and I hope you can find a game and some renewed interest in the hobby.

Have you ever considered gaming online, using Skype (as the groups I'm in do)? It is the closest thing to actual face to face gaming I've come across, especially if you use a virtual tabletop, like Maptools (which is free and easy to use). I too haven't been able to get a gaming group together in person for quite some time (about a decade), but you know, playing online using voice chat over the last couple of years, it really has been a lot of fun and a great way to make new friends. Check out the Online section of these forums or send me a PM sometime.

I have played by Skype one time and had a blast! I'd recommend something like this before you completely stop gaming at all.

On a side note, my books from TLG arrived today! I'm so stoked! Gonna spend some time this weekend and next week reading through the goods!

I've been aware of this for some time now. Unfortunately, over 50% of why I like gaming so much is the social aspect. Being in the same room with people, having special nights like "cigar night" you cannot emulate over skype. If it was just about the gaming then the skype version would be fine. It isn't and losing that intimate feeling just wouldn't work. To me the game itself is like a recipe, where I'd be happier eating the donut than reading about it.

Yeah, Dead, it's kind of bad up this way, too. I think there's just areas of the country where gaming just flourishes more so than others. I moved from Kissimmee (where I started gaming, teaching myself and then a few neighborhood friends) to Davenport, which was only a few miles away, but it was like night and day. Nothing in Davenport to do, and a lot of my peers were of the "redneck" variety. But I eventually got around to teaching some to play and had a blast for a few years before we graduated and/or moved away.

The problem in Florida, I feel, is that there's so much darn stuff to do, all year long, that gaming is not high on the "to do" list. Beaches, attractions, night life, and lord knows what else, Florida is the "land of short attention spans." Couple that with a lot of tourist influx, and a ton of industry and commerce based on that, the "vacation/party" atomsphere that permeates with many folk, and not a strong presence of gaming (no major conventions or strong showings on college campuses) and gaming easily gets lost in the shuffle. So, yeah, Dead, it's rough all florida, I feel, or at least in places where the retirement or vacation mindset exists.

I don't know exactlly where you are, Iron (I thought I remember you saying in Canada somewhere once, but I'm not sure), but I feel for you, man. The only advice I could even come close to giving would be that if you don't want to give it up, don't. I agree with you 100% - the social aspect of gaming is my favorite, too. I haven't had to explore the online route, yet (I have been curious for some extra gaming time) but if that was my only option, then I would definitely consider it. Now, I guess it comes down to whether or not your feeling of wanting to game is stronger than your dislike of that option (the online option). That's only a question you can answer (and it sounds from your post that the question is already answered). I guess it just saddens me a little when a gamer hangs up his dice bag. I hate seeing another one of this dying breed go.
